F1 Coming to America....

Been looking forward to this since the original announcement last year - the circuit looks amazing (designed by the same guy who designed Abu Dhabi and Bahrain's circuits...

and then - I saw this.... (on Jon's blog too) Austin is the coolest city on earth too... I'll definately be at this next november

and inb4 - that's so red bull...

Those discussions are FAR from over seeing as the city has been working ULTRA hard on a proposal. The Maloofs are pretty much being forced into it as well. They were derailing lots of options before theyre whole tiff with moving to anaheim last year.

...It's not like Oakland who's pretty much left the A's out to dry. Sacramento's REALLY trying hard.

oh yeah europe does have better tracks for F1, but as far as just pure layout is concerned, we got some of the best.

True- Europe also has a much higher density of phenomenal tracks with easy access then the USA- to get on any track around here costs either big dollars or you have to wait until they have a cheap track day- I just wish we embraced circuit racing like we do Sprint and Nascar- within 40 minutes of my house I have 3 full blown sprint car ovals large enough for Outlaw events-


Which if anyone ever has a chance to go see full blown sprint cars go- I guy I work with has one- 900 hp on methanol- the sound is just straight awesome

his whole team and everything is well over 400k a year to run- crazy money in sprint car racing around here

i saw some dragsters using nitromethane. anyone think F1 acceleration speeds are insane? These things covered a quater mile in like 3.4 seconds and hit 328mph. Plus it was on a short track so apparently they go faster.

Think about that- there are no cars that can circe a track faster than MOTO GP bike-

except for formula 1- the absolute pinacle of car technology- teams cost millions to run and are worth billions

i know ive got like 15-20 circle tracks within 5hours of me, like 3 less than 20 minutes away. but only two decent road courses within 5 hours.

oval racing doesnt interest me much, but i have a huge amount of respect for those guys, and unlike most people, i understand how much talent there is. ive raced with people from europe, been to europe and seen the racing scene there(not racing myself though) and i gotta say the oval racing in america is tougher and has more talent than any other racing scene in the world that ive seen IMO.

i know of circle track guys from around here who are literally on track every day. in their late 20's now, been doing it since they were 5, and still mid pack drivers. to really make it big requires an insane amount of dedication and skill.

that being said i think open wheel drivers have a more well rounded skill set and are better overall drivers.

i just wish indycar would be as big as it used to be, i think the format of ovals and road courses is the best overall test of a driver there is.

where did u hear this? i remember hearing MOTO GP guys qualifying times were almost 20 seconds slower than champ car times at laguna. and typical f2000 times were only a couple seconds slower than MOTO GP times.
not saying ur wrong, i hardly follow bike racing at all, just wondering..

pretty sure the 250cc go karts in portland were running faster times around the track than the indy cars by 4 seconds haha

interesting- if there is one city on the planet where that could be pulled off it would be the new york metro area- I love the fact that its straight private investors- alot of times when they have city races the city puts up money and it becomes a huge political battle about why are we funding a race when our schools still suck etc etc.


Id be stoked- more racing closer to me is awesome- plus im from NY originally so I have a place to stay at my aunts in Manhattan

incorrect.....F1 has never worked in America because it has no market there.  Empty seats, poor television ratings, having to compete with other races for the same air time ( a certain redneck race series).

Look at any other race, the Canadian Grand Prix ( always sold out, great ratings), or the Grand Prix of Japan.  America just doesn`t have those numbers.  I hate to say it, but building a new venue will not change that.

Polls conducted by f1 has shown that when it comes to actual number of fans/potential viewers etc America is second only to Great Britain in its fan base as of last year- While we may not be as densely grouped are overall amount is higher than any European or Asian fan base.

On top of that every single seat available for pre-order in Austin has already been sold out

Circuit racing in General in the last 5 years in the US has exploded. ALMS and INDY car circuit races have broken every single record for attendance for the last 3 years running and that was with increases in seat prices.


Eccelstone is not an idiot- there is a fan base to support it- enough so that he committed 10 years of racing there
