What are your thoughts on this? I was looking at world stats and since 1970 the worlds population has nearly doubled. I mean what is going to happen in say 25 years when we have 10 billion people? just something interesting i think.

This is why we are literally shooting ourselves in the foot compation wise by giving food, medical, financial aid to countries which cannot support their flourishing populations...

Sounds like the an improvement of the current system of "I'm poor, lets fuck without any form of birth control and have a bunch of kids we can't afford".

I think people should have to apply for a permit to have a kid.. there are many people out there not fit to be parents.

If recent experiments on population growth are any indicator, inertia will likely carry the human population way above carrying capacity, and then mass famine will kill a ridiculous number of people (billions) in a very short period of time.  Be thankful you don't live in Africa.

Population growth doesn't work like that. And the carrying capacity of the world is about 1 billion humans. We've far far exceeded that. It's a rather rare phenomenon when species grow away from carrying capacity. The passenger pigeon was an example, but they crashed and went extinct. Our population is expected to level out at 9 billion

I missed the full episode, but I just watched some bits off youtube that was posted. I would not be surprised at all if some of that stuff starts happening in our lifetime.

Earlier this year I found out about Singularity. Thats something unbelievable, but very possible.

I think one of the related problems, is that smart, young, educated, and successful people are waiting to have children, or are not having children at all.

And it's the under-educated, economically poor people that are having multiple children that they can't afford, and are relying on the government and other people to support them.

The population will continue to get dumber, and rely on the government even more.

But if any of you are actually interested in seeing how the growth trend will likely change in the coming years, look into the demographic transition theory. It's a population growth model that just about every non-isolated population has followed. Super interesting stuff. If you've taken a human geography class then you've probably already studied it.

China, India and Africa all need to stop fucking. India should put a 1 child per family cap like they did in China. Too many people, too little space. Where as countries like Canada which are huge have too little people and too much space. I believe Canada only have like 35 million people, and %90 of those people live within 2 hours of the border. Send some chinese and indians up north in Canada. Problem solved somewhat.
