i'm sick of breaking dukes, hopefully this is the answer! any one tried them?!

It isn't hard to take skins off without removing your skis. I never take my dynafit setup off when switching at the top. Rip skin, rip skin, snap heel, snap heel and you are done.

First, this binding was a joint project between Salomon and Atomic- both brands combined their resources and R&D teams at every step of the way. Therefore, the only difference is color.

DIN range is 7-16

There is metal in the construction (heel tower, stabilizer bars, locking mechanism, etc) where there needs to be and plastic in other areas- just like an FFG 16 or STH 16 . There is no such thing as a 100% all metal binding- even 30 DIN race bindings have plastic somewhere. The trick is to have metal and reinforced polymers in the proper areas. We have developed this every step of the way with our athletes- if things don't work they are the first to let us know.

Good to know!

My 15 DIN Tyrolias have plastic housings but metal "cores" and they work great. If these bindings are lower than Dukes and don't snap in half every time I drop a 10' cliff in -10˚F weather, I'm sold.

It'll be interesting to see how Marker answers this. The sad part is that since these things are so expensive and time-intensive to develop, the back and forth works out in decades, not seasons.

Lower stack height and metal are on top of my list.

Two questions: are we going to see a new hole pattern/jig? Is there a vertical toe adjustment like the Duke?

This design is the widest platform on the market, so yes there are new holes- 4 up front, 6 in the back.

There is a vertical toe height adjustment so the binding will work with both DIN soles and rockered A/T soles.

So it was built like an STH 16, but redesigned to be on an AT platform?


As long as it's just as durable (or close enough) to an STH 16, I'm pretty stoked.

Basically that's right. There isn't a price point set in the States yet- that will be made official at SIA, but it will be competitive with the Duke.

Here is some info on the binding (same info as on the Salomon mini-site) but you can enter to win a free pair of Tracker 16s and Atlas skis. Pretty sick.

Sorry, should have said bindings that are compatible with the ISO DIN 5355, which Plums aren't.

Not true. Just because a binding is compatible with ISO 5355 it does not mean that it is exclusive to ISO 5355 only. Such bindings, like our Tracker and STH 16, are ISO 5355 compliant but have a vertical toe height adjustment to be compatible with rockered soles.

Same with the duke and fritschi, but ISO goes out the window when you use a vibrum sole.

oh shit it has space polymer between the springs. damn.

The heel is pretty cool looking.  It's only plastic piece, the main body and housing for the springs, is actually made from aerospace polymer to ensure the bindings stay light.  Like the polymer, the aluminum and steel, on the heel and toe are also aerospace grade.

Unless the sole and binding are both also in compliance with ISO 9523. Some bindings are, some aren't. Same with soles. And then only North America is worried about it and indemnification. Europe could care less.

if you have 100percent vibram sole, then yes. However, many vibram soles on the market specifically leave hard plastic where the boot meets the forward pressure contact point of the binding to remain ISO compliant. My Ace of Spades boots do this.
