178 Line opus too small???

The 178 is taller than you so I think it will be fine. Will be a bit nimbler in the trees too.

Threads because I'm looking at almost the same choice. Same size and weight as the OP too. I've skied the Bentchetlers a lot but not the Opus.
For what help it is 183 Bentchetlers measure 181cm (straight tape pull), 172 Line Elizabeths measure 170cm (straight tape pull) and 185 EP Pros measure 182.5 (straight tape pull). Line tend to measure a little short in general for sure.

The 185 opus measures 185. I haven't measured the 178s but I gotta imagine it's the same. As far as what you should be riding, I'd say the 178. Yeah you could get away with the 185 but the 178 is going to be much more playful and maneuverable for you. Much easier to spin on as well. I've own the 185s and did exhaustive measurements and alot of research into it before I mounted it. These skis ride much more true to length than most other pow skis. Less dramatic early rise means more running surface than your typical pow ski and the sidecut gives you more effective edge. I'd say if you typical ski an all mountain ski between 170-178, then the 178 will be fine. If you ride a park ski thats in the 178 range though, I'd say go 185.

I would say 178 is fine. It was mentioned before, they do have a long runnning length, so they will be a stable 178, unlike jj's or alpha's that usually skis 20 cm short

Its just my park skis are 174 rossi s4's (which measure to about 173) and I am having a hard time thinking that my pow skis will be only 4-5 cm longer than my park skis? or will the non center mount on the opus equate to the far longer tip? how far in the mount back from center on the opus?

The mount on the opus is -2 of dead center but there's about a 1.5 difference between the tips and the tails. Meaning that the midsole line is actually damn near a center mount as far as running surface is concerned. As far as float, at your size it's not going to be an issue. Basically it's gonna be a maneuverability vs stability. If you were 6' and 180 I'd say def get the 185 without question. But your right at the size where you could do either without issue. The 185 is gonna give ya that extra stability for stomping huge drops, etc. The 178 is gonna be more maneuverable in the tight trees and general all mountain jibbin. Both will float fine for you. Just remember like I said earlier, this ski has more running surface and more effective edge than your typical pow ski. So basically you don't need to have that mentality of "I need to go alot longer than I typically ride."

Actually I'll put it more simply. If I were you, I'd get the 178.
