does this piss off anyone else? At my school there was a protest today at 9 am waking everyone up. These people have no idea what they even are protesting. So annoying. Its literally just a big party for all the hipsters and people who don't contribute to society and are jelous of everyone who actually work hard and make money

Actually what it was was when Reagan pitched the idea of the "Star Wars" system he did a good enough job on the pitch that Russians thought we already had it and spent themselves into oblivion trying to match it. Also, with the advent of TV and other things many behind the Iron Curtain found out about stuff like blue jeans and other such things and wondered why the evil capitalists had such nice crap and they lived in squalor. Hard to keep the populace in check when they aren't behind the idea anymore.

I think you would be pretty hard pressed to find any Cold War historian that would cite the downfall of the Soviet Union on Reagan's "Star Wars" and blue jeans.

Economic woes spurred on by extensive government spending, corruption, and oppressive and violent governing tactics especially in satellite nations ushered in the collapse.... sound familiar?

Your first ammendment rights don't give you the right to occupy public areas long term and fuck the majority of citizens days up just because you want to impose your opinions on the world endlessly. i went there 2 weekends ago and it was a HUGE disappointment. I am for the movement, but the people there were uneducated and unsanitary. There are certainly better solutions to the issues they are trying to solve.

Like I said, I think most of the OWS movement is fucking retarded. However I don't believe bear macing nonviolent protesters should be SOP. If they want to make arrests, and they resist? Go for it.

It's croud disperstion... Prevents mass arrest and limited hand to hand interaction with protestors. its also much cheaper to try to disperse the croud than pay to house and process everyone it weeds out the faint of heart so cops can just arrest the stubborn ones.

How is macing peaceful singled-out individuals crowd dispersion? It has no effect on the crowd as a whole outside of angering them and possibly instigating violence. It is nothing more than police brutality.

I agree that the 1% does need to pay a higher tax, because people of middle class are paying a higher percentage of their income through the fixed tax rate. However, some of the people protesting are complaining about "only making [place a figure above 40k a year here]" and have no reason at all to be complaining. Honestly, so many of us work for what we have and had success, you don't have to have everything to be happy. It's possible to live humbly and still feel happy. The violence has to stop though, people have the right to a peaceful protest, that's what the 1st amendment protects.
