does this piss off anyone else? At my school there was a protest today at 9 am waking everyone up. These people have no idea what they even are protesting. So annoying. Its literally just a big party for all the hipsters and people who don't contribute to society and are jelous of everyone who actually work hard and make money

The offshoot here in Seattle had a "protest" today, and basically it was just a bitch fest. They were complaining about anything and everything - wall street, GREED, CORPORATIONS, war, schools, environment, etc etc

So I agree with your premise. (Mostly) hipster jerkoff fest.

well that and the fact that the majority of the people who actually work on wall street are the lower level people who's lives depend entirely on the market going well.

If you wanna protest, go outside the meeting places/homes of the ones who actually make the money. Not the workplaces of those who depend on it more than anyone.

I hate these people more than anything!

This is what the US has come to. A bunch of me-first, age-of-entitlement, I-deserve assholes. This is the result of the first generation of kids who weren't allowed to play dodgeball in phy ed, didn't keep score during basketball games, have a closet full of "participant" trophies, and mommy and daddy told them every day how "special" they are but never felt the need to teach them about overcoming failure.

On the news, one protester was talking about how hard life was making "only" $50K a year as a single person. (I made just over $15,000 last year!!!) A second person was complaining about how hard it was, while drinking their Starbucks, with their Macbook open, and their iphone sitting next to them. You have got to be kidding me.......

My uncle had a great idea. "Everyone at these protests should have to go work on a farm for one year, shoveling crap, milking cows, and baling hay. After that, if they still want to complain about their life, then go for it."

Blaming the other "side" is such bullshit. It's one of the main reasons americans remain in such an ignorant spot.


It's a great tactic. Get 2 main groups rocking, point them against each other. Sort of like a sports game with teams you don't care about. No matter whats going on people will generally find one to like. Those side blame the other "side" for all the problems. The obsession with the other side being wrong and trying to beat the other side, keeps them from ever looking at the facts and trying to figure stuff out from some sort of real factual view point.

They are literally just protesting to protest. There was some protest here today and one of the ladies protesting had a sign that said fuck corporate gangsters. Another person had one that said the 99% would take down the 1 % and when we asked why he said we needed a society without government in control. Cause everyone knows society would function real well without any government.

lol at everyone in this thread thinking their on the other side of the shit. Average americans, those with a job and those without, are getting straight fucked by banks and our political system is getting bought out by corporations. Sure a lot of people take what they have for-granted ("only make so much a year"), or got in over their head ("have 150k in student loans and 3 babies"), but don't be so distracted by their selfish lil pity part to miss what's happening to the country collectively.

I agree with you, but no offense they have their reasons for protesting.

As an NS member who usually is full of bullshit I like to contribute when I actually know what I'm talking about; and this is a subject I'll pretend to know what I'm talking aabout.

As an accounting major and the son of a hedge fund manager in New York City, I understand where the protestors are coming from. They feel that corporate greed is overrunning capatalism in this country and to a certain extent they may be correct. Although I refuse to agree with their full intent of picketing, I see their basic idea for protest.

Yes, in actuality they have no idea why they are protesting (besides the fact that they are below middle class) But they need to realize that every society has poor people -- it's just a way of life. France, Britain and Russia all had poor people before their revolutions (and after their revolutions not too much actually changed). They don't understand that these people who were protesting literally didn't have any food to eat - people were dying in the streets of France... In america 99.6% of people go to sleep with the promise of food in the morning. Our goverment ensures that people below the poverty line have food stamps, welfare and HUGE tax deductions.

Anyways I'm too drunk/tired to write more... but people in America have their reasons to protest (1st amendment allows petetion of the government under any circumstance) but in the whole scheme of things they really don't know how good they have it compared to the entire world.

I hate corporate greed and the fact that Citibank employees get million dollar bonuses after they were bailed out by our government. But that doesn't mean I sit on the street and criticize our country. I know that Capitalism (partly driven by greed) is the reason why our country is still No.1 in the world. Nothing will change my feeling. And our tax structure (which is the most complex in the world) still allows people below the poverty line to afford food to eat and a bed to sleep.

In reality its about opportunity. I understand some people entering this country have none initially, but in time they can make something of themselves. My economics professor was born in mexico, moved here legally when he was 18 and now has educated himself enough to teach a college level course after earning his PHD.

there are some idiots in there to be sure, but dont be so quick to condemn an entire group who is protesting some undeniably shady/immoral shit

Im not denying that some of the folks out at these protests are simply rebels who dont know their own cause. BUT, to say there is no basis for these protests is fucking ignorant. and i hate using the word 'ignorant' on the internet. it transcends getting a good job vs smoking weed and putting a dildo in your anus. the banking elite are committing the biggest swindles in economic history and nobody has touched them, becasue nobody can touch them.

the federal reserve bank has NEVER (!), in the history of it existence, been audited.

What blows me away is the incessant demands for reform. You don't think people educated in that field would have the best opinion on the topic? Take Wall Street for example. Do you really think even 10% of the people protesting are educationally competent in the fields of finance/accounting/economics to approach this problem? No, nowhere near in comparison. I personally wouldn't pretend I know how to teach literature or determine that 'changes' which I can't come up with should occur in that field.

Said perfectly... The sign is perfect as well. I am in a very similar situation to the sign. Graduating in December completely debt free, played baseball for 75% scholarship and worked summers to pay for the rest of a private catholic education.

Ironically during the summers i worked as a ranch hand :) I know what real work is and i am grateful for everything I have earned.

Granted, I dont have a 3.8, and only receive grants, however I CHOSE to take out loans to pay for school. And I took out loans fully aware that I had to pay them back. I also work 30 hrs a week and take 18 credits to graduate this semester. How ever, I am not going to bitch about paying them back in 6 months.

A lot of these people seem to demand things just so they don't have to pay for /earn them. Occupy-ers need to realize that to receive benefits, you need to contribute to society as well.

Don't expect a handout if you aren't going to lend a hand to someone else.
