I'm trying really hard to learn how to slide the other way. I tried it sometimes today on a big pipe/rail and failed, didn't even get a chance to stand on it, just slightly getting up and falling off to the sides. So I'm basically wondering about the best technique for learning to slide the opposite/unnatural way. I really need this for doing switch up combinations etc. Some help is much appreciated, thanks.
It sounds like you might be falling back a bit, think about leaning forwards and in doing that you will probably correct what you are doing, I hoped that helped.
Yeah, that's a thing I'm struggling with a little, I need to improve on that. What kind of speed would be recommendable for a first timer? Faster is better?
Kind of wierd and not much help but I slide rails right foot in front and boxes left foot and it feels wierd doing it with the other foot on either I don't know why it just does I think it would be good to try switch ups or try it on boxes first. Unless you already can on boxes
Same with me but this year i want to try starting rails unnatural but for some reason its just awkward as fuck. But mid trick it seems to work out fine its weird
Id disagree..When I was learning rails I thought how people mentioned look somewhere near the end instead of at my feet and then I started cleaning the rail. however I will agree with your first post in that its just like learning on your natural side... if you can hit a box on your unnatural side, try it on a rail..gorilla steeze it and look at the end and own it
lots of people learn 270's on before unnatural slides cuz they put more time in most of your problem is probably coming from the mental block of turning unnantural and commiting to the slide try on a down rail first it forces you to slide so u can take it slower at first
i can also 270 on and switch up landing unatty better than a straight up unatty slide but its mostly in your head if you go into it thinking your gonna slip out your gonna but just think of it like a natural slide and there not hard at all, just like a natural slide
Learn how to ride unatraul before swaps and 270's! You may be able to do them, but it will be soooo much easier and look better if you get down how to ride bothways. Just like skiing switch. Its something you need to excel in the park. Plus you'll never have to skip a feature again because you could'nt ride the rail that way.
learn 270s and get comfortable spinning right. a 270 to the left is going to land you in your unnatural slide and to me a 270 to unnatural is easier than just unnatural. getting comfortable spinning right helps a ton too.
All you need to do is buy a massive mirror, and place it at the end of the feature. When you look into it and slide, it will trick you, and suddenly, Unnatural Slides.
if you have you're front 2's good then just try a switch up or a 2 on and you'll feel what its like to slide a rail that way. it sounds like the problem is how you're popping onto the rail, so it might be a subconscious fear thing
some decent advise in here, but most have missed the mark.
Basically, you slide rails naturally the same way you skateboard or snowboard naturally. For me that is left foot forward. You should definitely grab your skateboard and practice hopping on (literally jumping onto it with both feet) and riding away switch.
Once you do this, head to the ski hill and find a natural rail. i.e. a nice little snow angle that is perhaps on the side of a cat track or something that you can butter/slide. Start sliding it with your unnatural stance. Also, every time you hockey stop at the bottom of the hill, consciously do it to that unnatural side. Once you're doing that shit all the time, it will be 10x easier to slide a rail unnatty.
Personally im down with it because or my rollerblading and grinding both ways. It is all about setting yourself up exactly as you would for a natural but everything opposite. If you can get away with it without pissing too many people off just get a feel for standing on the box unat. Then take it back to "my first rail slide" stages.
i guess its just the same as learning to slide your natural way all over again. jus learn on an easier box and work your way up. also i learned fs swap and fs 2 off first.
It's easier to slide unnaty foot forward when you 270 on/ switch up/ come on switch. You don't need to know how to slide unnaty in order to do any of those, it just happens.
But learning to slide unnaty foot forward just coming on normally is the same thing as learning to slide a rail. You are going to fall alot, it's part of the learning process.
