if you have the opportunity to go and see this film, for the love of god do.
Ill get it out of the way early - its got an environmental message which kicks in about 2/3 the way in - whether you agree with it or not, its well sitting through it for the quality of the film which pre and proceeds it.
you have NOT seen cinematography, editing or the use of sound to complement and accentuate the action in a ski movie like this before. nothing i have ever seen has come close (im 30, iv seen a a lot of ski movies). this is not ski action set to songs, the music feels organic to the action, and the footage is shot flawlessly and in ways i dont ever remember seeing before (if you saw lifecycles, the mtb movie you will have some idea what im talking about).
all the skiers are on tilt, but highlights are
-kye peterson skiing like sean pettit ( that good)
-jp has probably my favourite urban segment of all time (if that makes no sense to you, its shouldnt - just see the film)
-some of the deepest high speed deep pow shots set to editing that made me want to ski out of the cinema
-a short treadway sled segment that will blow your fking mind
-time lapses that run from summer to winter, leading into or out of deep pow shots - you wont believe theyre real
it will get preachy eventually, there might be a hundred or so too many time lapses when all is said and done, and obviously dont go in expecting park or urban (other than jp - has to be seen to be believed).
But if your one of those kids who wont watch TGR or matchstick because you find big mtn and pow shots get repetitive pretty quick, this movie will move you on a whole different level.
see it if you can
as for TGRs 'one for the road', it is EXACTLY what you expect. if you like that, good luck to you (walnuts makes a 10 second appearance)
