Best big mountain resort in Utah

Hey I just moved out here, and I know you might say search bar, but I looked, and most the answers were pretty biased so I just want the pros and cons of Alta and Snowbird. I am looking for steeps, and cliffs, and I know people say Snowbird gets tracked fast but i am totally willing to be their early to get some pow. So what are the best parts of each resort because I can't afford a pass to both. Thanks!

It seems like most people have their preference of one over the other, but the reality is the terrain is very similar. Both are awesome, though I prefer 'Bird. I feel like I spend more time traversing to get to stuff at Alta than I do at 'Bird, but I also don't know it as well. Another thing to consider is that you can upgrade your Bird pass on any given day and ski Alta for $30 so you can still check out both, and your 'Bird pass will probably be good into June/July whereas Alta will close in May.

Ski 'em both and decide for yourself. You can't go wrong with either one!

Don't look past powder mountain, nothing is as steep as snowbird or alta in UT, but if you work for it you can ski a lot of good sized mountains at Powder Mountain.

everything that this guy said^^, plus snowbird has more vert, more terrain, in my opinion better terrain, and no ultra-douchey Alta elitist attitude. the deciding factors for me are that if you go with the bird, it has more and better terrain and you get to ski somewhere with a MUCH better vibe. Alta blows.

Its really weird how people see things differently, I feel exactly opposite. I feel like alta has a totally friendly fun vibe, and snowbird has the douchey elitist attitude. and in my opinion i feel alta is less vert, but it is way more playful terrain. think it all depends on who you are skiing with where, both mountains can be super intimidating if you are going it alone.

For big mountain, the Bird. It's such a fun place to ski.
I've done more jibbing things/natural booters at Alta though. I picked Alta for my pass this year just based on Wildcat. Wildcat laps with friends are like a park day.

Its funny, everyone always talks about how elitest the people at alta are but I can't see it being any worse than the guys who lap tram at the bird. I've never really spent any time at Alta but at the bird I basically stick to Gad and don't really bother with the tram

I make maybe one or two tram laps/day just to hit the Cirque.... but I basically live in Tiger Tail. Love that area.
All times are Eastern (-5)
