Best eastern ski resort

I was wondering what the best ski resorts in the east are for park riding and backcountry riding. 1 place doesn't have to have both but like what is the best eastern ski resort for park and pipe, And what is the best eastern resort for back country. Ps it'd be cool if 1 place had both tho

I say Jay for riding pow.

Park is always pretty debatable... I haven't been touring around that much lately so I can't much speak to last years quality.

Best Park: Mount Snow easily...just for shear amount of terrain
Best Pipe: Killington...they've got the only 22 footer on the East Coast I believe
Best All-Terrain: I'm gonna go with Sunday River...they have something for everyone
Best Powder: Jay Peak...it's stupid how much more snow they get than anyone else
Best Steeps: Tough one...I'm thinking SugarLoaf or Mad River Glen
Best Trees: My person pick on this one is Stowe...be really most of VT has really fun trees.

park= stowe or mt snow.

seriously the amount of lines and shit that patrol doesn't close at mad river is ridiculous. To get the know the really good lines you got to ask a local though. but damn well worth it

and since i doubt you've ever traveled to the east coast to ski, you're wrong.

stowe should definitely be up on everyone's list. great snow, great terrain with awesome and easy access to tons of great sidecountry spots, and their park was solid last year and always improving

Big Tupper in the Adirondacks in NY. No park, but catch Chair 3 on the right day and you'd be stoked. Plus, they're the little guy and can use all of the support they can get.

regardless of the thread direction he has a valid point.

i grew up skiing in the east, and here's my input, vermont has the best mountains for EVERY category.

Jay for a lot of snowfall, although i think they heavily inflate their actual snowfall total.

Mount Snow for park.

Mad River Glen for trees and steeps.

Stowe for the jack of all trades.

if you're planning a trip, go west, plane tickets aren't THAT expensive.

thank you for the input but I already know the west is awesome. I already have my tickets to park city so it's not like I'm unaware, I've been there before. But unfortunately I don't live there so it's easier to make trips to vermont and eastern mountains. So yes I love the west but lets just keep the topic on the east. :)

Mount Snow has the most features, not the best park. There is a difference. Okemo or Loon have the best park in terms of quality of features and variety. Mount Snow it tons of fun, don't get me wrong, but they are running off shear volume of features. They don't have anything really exciting.

Jaypeak blows everywhere else out of the water as far as trees and backcountry. Sugarbush is probably second, but I have never been anywhere in Maine so this is just based off of my experience.

As far as having all the above, Killington (out of the big 3 in Northern - Stowe, Bush, Killy). If Killy was as close to Burlington as Stowe and Bush, I would definitely go there. The mountain is dope. Not so much backcountry, but they have some good trees and excellent terrain.

I am personally a Bush fan. The park is super fun, the steeps are excellent, the trees are amazing, and you almost never have to wait in line. Such an under rated mountain.

now that you broached the topic about the west, particularly park city, cancel ur trip and go somewhere other than utah. there's already enuf hate going on about this, but this is a real problem that is written about all over the web: it's run by mormons and they're really mean. they look down on you if you're on your second beer or if you're wearing rasta colors. seriously, hartford has more going on than slc. even if u do go to utah, go to bird. they're park sux, but chances r, since ur in utah and live on the east, u dont want to waste that precious vacation out west in a park that you can find on the east. plus, mormons look down on park skiers that have too much steeze. my refugee exmormon friends moved to either new mexico or colorado (new mexico?? good mountain biking and lighter snow than chavez's backup income).

anywho, nightlife is crucial and mormons suppress it, so dont go to utah unless u plan on only waking up for first chair and foregoing the last call part, or at least as i picture it in VT or CO. i feel like u already r mormon.

I agree mostly with Flashkick101. a lot of other fine points. if u r looking to save money and skip lift lines, go to bolton. they've got great terrain. their park isn't great tho. i dont remember them having a pipe when i went last yr.

go to Loon and Jay.  no question

as someone who moved from northern NH and VT to Utah and CO i can confidently tell you that Loon is on the same level park-wise as PC, Breck and keystone and Jay Peak gets more/better snow than most of colorado. taking a trip to both (go to loon in the spring and jay in febuary if you have a choice) would make for a pretty dope season.

if you go to jay with  group of friends stay at Grandpa Grunts hostel

THere is a drastic difference between a park with a lot of shit, and a good park.

Hell I'd hit one rail and one jump on a 100' mountain all day long over a gigantic mountain with a 10 jump line... if the small mountain's features were aboslutely immaculate.

Best Park: Id agree Mount Snow, but also Loon or Killington
Best Pipe: Either Killington, or Waterville has a mad nice pipe
Best All-Terrain: Glad to say my home mountain of Sunday River, if you hit up a local they can show you some amazing gems
Best Powder: Hands down Jay Peak
Best Steeps: Mad River Glen or Jay has some nice steeps if you know where to go
Best trees: Sunday River will have great tree runs this year, they cut a lot and it should be fun, plus there are some hidden ones. But also Saddleback has some fun ones

a couple friends and I ended up hooking up with a local at mad river on a powder day.....amazing, got untracked pow runs all afternoon

Yeah mad river has fun backcountry on a pow day. And that pipe at Killy is straight up scary. I'm no longer a pipe guy and haven't been for alot of years but I ran through killys superpipe last year and wow. You get soooo much air off that thing. The stash there is fun too. Especially the sidecountry features. Plus you do one run through the stash and your pretty much guaranteed to see a spectacular crash. I've seen so many nasty wrecks in that park that I'm surprised it's still open. Killy also has quite a bit of fun out of bounds tree runs and c'mon, coopers cabin? Not a good "run" but an epic meet up place nonetheless. Still remember the first time I bombed off the roof. Haha.

Mount snow definatly does not have the best park on the east coast....as for the east coast....

Best backcountry is going to be up north...Jay, Stowem Smuggs, Mad River, etc

Best park is probably okemo, loon, very debatable as many places have really solid features all depends on the layout and how much you can hit down the mountain.

Best groomers: Stratton. Never have skied groomers as nice anywhere besides deer valey

Even though Jay has sold out its still the best for pow and trees. And whoever said go to Grandpa Grunts was def right. Go to Mt Snow for early season park and Loon for spring park.

do yourself a favor and dont come to sugarloaf :P but id say it certainly is an issue of when youll be skiing, SR/K for earlier...SL is my home for mid/spring.. Sick mountain, great people.

Whiteface has slides, If you catch them on the right day It's legit, they have a pretty decent park too, and of course Jay Peak is always fun! But my favorites park wise are Killington and Mount Snow!
