the direction of freeski boots seems to be improving every year. I personally have a size 14 foot AAA narrow so it is VERY difficult for me to find a good all mountain/backcountry freeski style boot in my size range, I don't want to step into a race boot for obvious reasons and I am well aware i need to see a bootfitter. However i'm wondering if any of you guys know of a good, narrow lasted, long fit {roughly 30-32 pending on brand} freeski boot that is other than the lange rx series? I stepped into a size 31 full tilt shell and that is not happening , I've done alot of research, and almost feel lange rx series is about my only option as freeski narrow last boots seem to stop at about 29 mondo. just shy of my shell length.
Just so you know, there's nothing really "freeski" about those boots- they are based off their consumer race boot the RS. My point is not to bash Lange but just to show you that the best boot is the one that fits you. Forget about the marketing behind the boot, especially for the size you are looking for. Most anything in that size range will be a race boot, if you can even find options in a 30. Just be psyched on a boot that fits you.
I've been skiing park/all mountain in re-branded race boots for years
Atomic X-130
Lange Freeride 120
and the last couple years I've been in a Lange Comp Pro.
The whole "freeskiing boot" is a brilliant marketing idea thought up by someone at one of the companies to come out with a "new" boot by just changing the colours and buckles.
At the end of the day, unless you're going to be touring or doing some serious bootpacking, you should really be looking for a boot that fits you properly and has the proper flex for you. Other than that, you're looking at essentially frilly shit that isn't going to help your performance.
A boot is a boot and will do essentially the same thing as long as it fits.
