Underrotating backflips>over rotateing

the few backys i crashed on when i was first learning them i would throw wayy to hard and overrotate to the point i would land flat on my back, wich would knock the wind out of me and i always thought i broke my back (i never did though) i also slightly underrotated a few and it never hurt as bad and was actually fun afew times. I learned dub backs on waterramps this summer so im gona be trying a few on snow this season. so ns whats your thoughts on overor underrotateing backys/ dubbacks?

underrotated backflip = separated shoulder

overrotated rodeo = super bad ice burn and cuncussion/KO

done em both, i would say that the recovery from underrotating is worse

hahhah if the landing is steep you just penguin slide down the landing if you under rotate and ya its a fucking blast

concussion is gay, 2months recovery because of a 60ft air landed on back =(

underrotated backflip hurt less than overroatated because when you underrotate, your ski just go off and you slide down the land on your belly.

i would rather have the wind knocked out of me over rotate one and most likely knock the wind out of me than under rotate one and spend millions on face repair... you sir are an idiot...

Basics physics say that if you over rotate a backflip then you were spinning faster than if you under rotated it meaning you have more force on impact meaning you will be hurting a lot more. Also I would prefer to have my skis absorb a good amount of the force and go for a little face slide than have my spinal cord and head take the majority of the impact and be truly fucked for a couple months or possibly life. You sir are an idiot...

Your basic physics are not really correct, nor do they account for much of basic physics. Most of the force associated with a fall comes from the force of the ground stopping your linear velocity and momentum when you fall out of the air. The difference in rotational momentum between overrotating and underrotating isn't much. I'm not saying you are an idiot, but you should probably learn a bit more about physics before calling people out about it.

As for the question: I'd say if you live somewhere where this is an option build a BC booter to throw a couple off of first, and in that case its OK to overrotate a bit. If thats not an option I think you should plan on landing on your feet not overrotating or underrotating (sorry not trying to state the obvious here). At least with me when I first started throwing backies I overrotated them too, primarily cause I was scared of underrotating, so I just set them too hard, its sounds like this may be the case for you as well. Generally, I think people know how hard to set tricks, they just get scared and their brain overcomes their instinct. Don't just whip the double around. Be patient with the set and get a good pop off the lip before you set the flips (probably like you learned at the ramps) This will give you much more control in the air if you need to speed up or slow down the rotation.

i over rotated one a few years back, just took it way to deep and fractured 3 vertibre in my thoracic zone.

I find that when you under rotate its a little less of a surprise, unless you hit the knuckle. you can at least be strategic with your fall. Over rotating however, first line of defence is some place on your spinal cord, or head. i just stay away from big backflips now unless im doing 2 of them.

I'm going to have to say that if you don't go so far around that you land on your neck/head on an over-rotation, then over-rotating is way better than under-rotating. Your spine is a wicked strong set of bones that are designed to protect your main spinal column from direct (i.e. right on your back) impact. In contrast, your clavicle, the muscles in your rotator cuff, and your ribs are slightly weaker and don't work in harmony to protect one another the way the spine does. To add a story to this, I fucked up my whole season last year under-rotating a backie on an icy day in January and severely bruising my rotator cuff (which still hurts today). If I had over-rotated, I probably would've had a concussion, a bruised ass, and the wind knocked out of me pretty bad, but the recovery for that is like 3-4 weeks, as opposed to the 6+ months it's taken this to fully heal.

Either way, I'll second what everyone's been saying above. You really don't want to do either. Get a BC booter built with a lot of pow in the landing, think hard about what you need to do to bring it around, and feel the rest out by just trying them a bunch. You'll eventually get it and if you've got a cushy landing almost nothing can go wrong. Good luck.

stfu, like t24 said, when you underroate, your ski absorb a part of the force and the impact is a smaller. both happened to me so shut up and think before saying shit,underroatating a backflip is a LOT better than overotating one.

under rotating i think will cause less injury, im guessing you ar getting it around enough to not land on you neck or head. i dont really have a science behind it. i just feel like it wouldn't be as bad. i am thinking of  a nice park jump landing. however, powder on the other hand, is probably batter to over rotate. my $0.02
