Snowboarders killed it this season.

Art of flight is the best big mountain snow film ever made. Cinematography and riding was amazing.
Technine had all types of super creative urban with terrifying consequences
TB20 is just nuts, triples, helgason raping rails, torstien killing, xavier de la rue is out of his mind in the BC

forum vacation looks sweet, twelve looks sick.

im kinda jelous of the movies coming out on the snowboard side of things, the ski movies are defiantly awesome but i think the snowboarders are a little ahead...

ya i guess youre right. I thought that skiing had closed the gap within the last few years, i thought last years movies were really comparable, but this year was clearly much stronger for the boarders. Not only in riding, but in music selection and cinematography as well.

Snowboarding has had years to progress and develop before free style sking really came into play. No wonder they are ahead.

i agree that the individual movies on the snowboard side were better this year, but i wouldn't say they are ahead of skiers as a sport. watch stept's weight for the best urban, there were a couple skiers who got triples this year, and i personally think sammy c shreds as hard as trice or at least close.

the style and spot selection are a little different, but i don't think either one is more impressive than the other.

shoot the moon was probably the best urban movie i have ever seen. snowboard urban is always going to be way gnarlier than skiing.

that being said, i think the stept crew is getting much closer to snowboard like urban features and how tech they are getting. the pushed the limit this year which was so sick.

i agree with the guys who stated that snowboarding has had longer to progress and I would defiantly agree with that. It is interesting to look at how each sport is branching out into their own niches as well. snowboarding lends itself well to pow surfing, urban drops, butters and presses. Skiing lends itself well to a complex range of inverted tricks and super technical rail tricks like pretzels and LJs poorboyz part.

I don't think it would be possible for a snowboarder to do what LJ does on rails, and I don't think it would be possible for a skier to do what Travis Rice does in the backcountry.

for me its big mountain snowboarding that i dont like watching (but its filmed way better) but i like watching snowboarding bc booters. snowboard urban is my fav tho.

I don't know about the other movies but the Art Of Flight was really truly on an entirely different level than anything I have ever seen before, they charge so unbelievably hard and take airs so big and so fast. It was really a stepping stone for any snow sport. That being said I think what Stepts doing with the way they edit and film there movies is pretty unique and amazing to watch, they really put you there and make you feel how fucking dedicated and passionate they are. This is something you can find in surf movies, climbing movies, skateboard movies, etc. but is really missing from snowsports. Anyway stoked to see what else comes out.

Dude i love watching sammy ski but too compare him to travis...that guy is soooo far ahead of his time he kills it everywhere he goes. Not to say sammy doesn't either but the drive and passion rice brings to the sport is just ridiculous. He's even got a couple years on sammy and hes showing no signs of slowing down at all. The dub rodeo he does on that massive step down just ends the argument for me haha that was just so nutty and hucking 7's mid line of epic revey ranges is just nuts. When i see sammy start crushing alaska like rice maybe that comparison would be fair. Until then though i gotta say the only guys i can see touching rice right now are scotty lago and Muller, that whole crew is just fucked..

The cinematography in Art Of Flight was next level.

The lines were sick, but not revolutionary.  The tricks in AK were, but the lines themselves were not above other stuff I have seen.  I did not see a line that rivaled Sage doing Hotel Room.

This stuff comes up every year, and I don't tend to agree with it.  The Art Of Flight is on a different level, because of the cameras.  The urban stuff I could care less about.  The less urban I see the better.

one of the reasons big mountain skiing simply can't be compared to snowboarding *yet* is that some of those insane lines from the opening segment were ridden switch. they also casually tossed in backside 180s and sevens. give me a holler when sage skis hotel room or the like switch and I'll take you seriously.

sammy doesn't have the pure gnarliness in his parts that travis does for sure, but i think sammy is more technical in more aspects of riding. his poorboyz part this year and on top of the hood were both pretty insane

its a total apples to oranges argument though and i don't want this to turn into a ns shit show so i will concede that is travis crazier, but sammy is getting there.

switch or not, skiers or snowboarders, AK is a sacred place that few will ever attempt to ski or ride. the lines that go down in any big production are unreal.

I completely agree. But that doesn't mean that it isn't ridiculous to ski a tough AK line switch on a board. It's far and away the biggest reason you can never compare snowboarding and skiing.

definatly true but switch skiing back country lines looks pretty stupid in my opinion. Jibbing and what not looks cool in the back country or doing little butters but full lines switch looks so stupid. They can't do anything really that awsome switch.

You kids should watch Kye Petersons part in All I can and tell me travis does stuff in the BC that can't be done on skis.

I thought the art of flight wasn't as good as TITA and I've heard everyone of my snowboard friends tell me the exact same thing.

I do think that snowwboarders have had more time to mess around with urban stuff thus most of the time it's more creative.  I also think that Lj's part can't be done on a snowboard.
