Dying I/O's

Alright, I'm almost positive I have seen a thread about someone dying their pair of I/O gogglers. yea well I can't find it to save my damn life.

Anywho,
Whoever has dyed their I/O, tell me about your experience. I am planning on dying my new white I/O's.
Is it hard to take apart the goggle itself? How do you do so?
Does the frame absorb the RIT dye pretty well?

Hell, these could be the stupidest questions you have ever seen, but I just need to know how to do it.

Enlighten me people.

Can't you only take the lens out? the rest is one piece?
Rite due works great on cbars, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Also, if you're mucking out, at least from my experience, it's pretty hard to get white to black, I've always ended up with a very dark blue

pretty solid response. I was wondering the same thing about the disassembly.

That makes sense about the white to black…bummer :/

Only thing I can think of when I see this thread popping up is why would you buy a semi-frameless goggle and then want to dye it? That seems only useful/cool on a goggle with a substantial frame. If I were you I wouldn't be looking to do this at all or just buy a different goggle if you really want a "murked" out goggle or whatever.

I dyed those I/Os you sold me all black (so that they'd be murked with that rc36 lens). Just follow this video exactly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yykaOBtN2o except have the frame and strap still attached, and you'll be fine. I didn't even use that concentrated dye. I used 2 packs and like 5.5 cups of decently hot water, not quite boiling, and left them for almost a half hour. Perfect. Click for larger imageClick for larger image

Holy shit man! Those are SOO dope! I'm glad you happy with them! That is sooo sick. The only problem is, is I wonder if this will work for the white frame/strap. The above stuff says it turned a blue or purple ish? I wonder if that will happen to mine?
Not sure if i should risk it or not.


Can I buy those back from you?

maybe use a litte more dye and a little less water and leave them in for longer might help

Here is a little bit of a better picture of the RC36 lens.. but ya, i know what you mean..they look clear. I actually sold the goggles and lens to the above guy that went murdered out….the lenses are definitely darker then they appear.

Yeah, also oakley black iridiums just look like plain brown lenses on the internet, but in reality they're a chrome mirror. There are a lot of bad lens animations on websites these days...
But yeah trust me, rc 36 is very dark. It's also an orange tint, so it's a lot more versatile than something like oakley's dark grey

When they're on your face, you can't see through them and they're basically black looking, but from the inside they're a dark orange instead of grey, so you can use them in a lot more conditions easily. just all around better than dark grey.

if you're still wondering you CAN remove the frame from the strap, find the 2 points where the strap is joined to the frame and then sort of just push them up and out of the frame, one of them will go really easily the other is pretty hard.
