Price of a European ski trip

For those of you who have gone to Europe to ski, is it worth going there over going out west in the U.S./Canada?  What would be a ballpark price range for 4 or so days of skiing in the Alps?  Cheapest accommodations and whatnot.

If you are going to Europe, don't waste your time with 4 days... I went to Switzerland this summer for 5 weeks. The reason being, your flight is going to cost the same regardless, so may as well reduce the cost proportionately by staying for at least a couple weeks. If you can't go for that long you are better to just stay in North America. Hostels are good. You can usually find inexpensive flats or apartments if you are staying for longer... depends where you are thinking of going.

In that case I'd attempt two weeks or so.  As for location, anywhere that has a good skiing to price ratio.

All depends how you do it man. I will tell you what I did so you can have an idea. I went to Switzerland this summer to ski on the glacier.

Buy your round trip using a travel website.Scope for good deals! Can't be picky- Expedia- Vancouver to Zurich Switzerland 1400 round trip.

Get a place on hill, try to tell the people how broke you are and try to get a deal. A buddy and I got an apartment for 3 weeks for 400 each. Having an apartment is key because you can cook your own food.

Buy no name food. Switzerland is hilarious, 1litre of no name cola is like 0.60franks. a 500ml bottle of coke is like 3.50 franks. Buy no name, and eat as inexpensive as possible.

Purchase travel insurance. I ruptured a muscle in my shin and tore some ligaments in my ankle. 1 visit to the doctor = 700 candian dollars. If you are covered through work or buy it. Don't assume you won't get hurt.

If you can barely afford to go... you can't go. Shit happens, and even if you budget, you will end up needing to spend a couple hundred extra on various things.
