TGR and stealing songs

last year, it was Animus Vox, Bad Wings, and Divisive (from the meatheads trailer)

then this year that shitty bassnectar song from the night pillow seg in revolver.

Take it up with TGR. I don't really see what the big deal is. If anything it just makes them look a little unoriginal, no need to blow a blood vesel brotherman.

movies are being edited before trailers come out. they probably didn't know and they aren't going to re-edit a full segment if they notice one of their songs was in a trailer.

if tgr likes a song they are going to put it in a movie cause tgr's forums are full of people who are stoked on skiing and not little kids who give shits about "stealing" songs.

caged bird has been on like 4 movies. wanna know the reason why they take those songs? cause people like the op and every one on ns, like them. why would they put crocodile rock by elton john on a ski video. stop listening to those songs, bet they'd change next year

none of them made the songs in the first place, so using the song that someone else used who didn't make the song in the first place is not stealing.

wileys part in eye trip was stolen... lots of companies use songs that have been used before. its pretty hard to find a song that no one has ever heard of and have it go great with a banger segment. The world will not end, and to be honest i sometimes enjoy hearing the same song in a different edit.

All big movies reuse songs, MSP is the worst but ive given up caring, their movie this year has like 4 used songs. I think MSP is at the point where they dont care, they pay for rights and use it.

Doesn't bother me a bit. On a similar note, has anyone noticed how many edits/movies have used the song "Sail" by AWOLNATION?? I feel like I've seen at least 6 or 7 different ski seggys with that song in it!

Keep in mind how many movies are out there these days: maybe there are 25 reputable ski flicks and 40 snowboard flicks per year. First, do you expect the filmmakers to have seen every one of those movies? And let's say there are an average of 8 songs per movie (often more). Do you expect the filmmakers to remember the 520 songs in those movies? And let's carry that over the past 5 years and we're talking about 2600 songs that filmmakers supposedly should memorize and not "steal" from anyone else. Then there are the hundreds upon hundreds of web edits out there that you could throw in the mix as well.

Just because a song is used in multiple flicks doesn't mean it's "stolen." Chances are far better that the filmmakers simply heard the track, dug it, and used it. I know for a fact that if MSP has heard a track in any other ski flick, they won't touch it.

You know what, I like when they re-use songs. Because then there is a chance that when a good song is used on a bad seggy, there is a chance for redemption with that song.

OP is dumb is happens all the time in the action sports industries, if you only notice tgr doing it you are only watching skiing, song choice has a lot to do with editting as well as musical budget. Its more of a process than you think

TGR and all the other companies don't go around and secretly try to find out who is using what songs. They generally pick from artists that are willing to sell rights to the song for cheap, and that's why you see the same songs being used in movies, because they are cost effective for the companies.

i knew i heard this song in a video a while back but couldn't remember what it was, such a sick part too. and i agree, i've heard that song a ton lately, but i like it so i don't mind, just know ill never use it in any of my edits

i doubt any of the people who work for msp or tgr saw that video, maybe field. but like i said, these bigger companies dont care. if they did, they'd hire some kid like you or me who watches alot of edits to be a music supervisor. But, they don't, they buy rights to a song and use it and could probably care less if a couple kids are mad cause someone used it in their edit.
