Alright, here's a quick step by step of the sync jack mod. Sorry I didn't take any pictures while soldering/inserting the jack, but that's straight forward.
You'll need the flash, some phillips head screw drivers, a soldering gun, wire strippers, some ~3" pieces of wire (quantity 2), electrical tape, and scissors
start with the bottom of your flash. you'll need to remove 4 screws to pull off the hotshoe and access the internals
when it is unscrewed (be sure to put the screws somewhere safe!!!) it should pull up like so
now originally I planned to solder wire straight to the foot, but the layout was not as straight forward as I had planned, so I went a different route
after unplugging the hotshoe's wiring and placing it aside, I removed two more screws located under the rotating head ( it will need to move a few times to access them)
prying the two plastic pieces can be a bit tricky, so take it slow. Once apart, you'll be looking at this:
The plan I came up with was to simply cut the PC jack's two sync wires and rewire it to the 1/8" jack. I obviously don't want to use the PC port (if I did, I wouldn't be doing this mod in the first place!) so I just snipped the wires and removed the connection to solder it. Ground (black) connects to the jacket of the 1/8" port, and the red will connect to the piece that sticks out (just look at the picture...)
While waiting for the solder gun to warm up, I took the time to drill the hole for the 1/8" jack to pop out. I chose to put it down near the hotshoe, but anywhere you can fit the jack will be fine.
After putting everything back together (forgot to take pictures of everything soldered, my bad) I threw in some batteries and tested her out. Worked like a charm! :D
