The old, Free phone charger at a hotel trick...

Anyone ever try this? I need a new charger and I have tried calling two hotels to see if they will let me get a charger from the lost and found box. I was hoping they would just be like "Sure come on down and take a look."

Instead they are asking last name and when they stayed. I am unable to provide this information because I am lying to them.

Has anyone successfully done this? I am contemplating going in and just asking in person. But I don't want to look like a fool.

Any advice?

Double post. (NS really needs an edit post feature)

After a week or so, they do all just go into a box. I completely forgot about that for a minute. I got a few Ipod chargers and a phone charger out of it actually.

I just said I stayed on a busy weekend, gave them a fake name, they looked it up asked what room I stayed in and I said I didn't remember. They looked it up, had no record of me staying there but asked housekeeping to check and see if they had and blackberry chargers anyway.

They brought one up it didn't fit my phone so I followed the woman back and looked through the box till we found one that fit.

In the backroom they had 3 shelves, one was if it was found 30 days or less ago, then 60 days, then 90. After that they just threw it into a box.

They will probably just let you go back and look through the box. Pick a popular weekend, like labor day or whenever and make sure the date is not too recent so it is in the old boxes.

They kind of did catch me. But I just stuck with my story and asked to see some chargers.

I think it depends on what sort of hotel you are calling.

We had a box of unmarked chargers that we really didn't care about. It's the most left thing in the room and never picked up cause they are so cheep.

Try a hotel where the person working the front desk likely doesn't care... like a motel 6.

jesus you fucking tea-partier.... he's going to a hotel & asking to look through their trash, more or less. based on your holier-than-thou attitude, I'm going to assume that you've never worked in a housekeeping department.

when people leave their shit in a hotel, it stays in the lost and found for a month or two at the longest. if no one claims it after that, employees or whoever are free to take from the box in order to make room for new lost items. he's not stealing.
