The old, Free phone charger at a hotel trick...

Anyone ever try this? I need a new charger and I have tried calling two hotels to see if they will let me get a charger from the lost and found box. I was hoping they would just be like "Sure come on down and take a look."

Instead they are asking last name and when they stayed. I am unable to provide this information because I am lying to them.

Has anyone successfully done this? I am contemplating going in and just asking in person. But I don't want to look like a fool.

Any advice?

Did it. Said "family weekend" for the college in town. Common name didn't come up, but they still sent me to the back of the housekeeping room. They didn't have "my" charger,

anyway, i went to the back they didnt have it but the nice housekeeping lady gave a random one anyway.

Shit works just make up names and be nice. Dont buy another charger

What you are doing is thievery. You are lying, followed by stealing. Give yourself a pat on the back. Suggestion: maybe it would be easier to steal from a store that has your charger. Please don't give me that line that you have morals pertaining to how you steal. A thief is a thief.

Id rather steal from a lost in found box than a store. Something that will never be claimed is not counted as a loss. It wont hurt any stores numbers.

no. but morals can be. for instance, would seeing a homeless person on the street and giving him no money be morally incorrect? well it could be, depending on your financial situation or what the guy was homeless for in the first place. plus, morals were created by humans and the standards for them were set by humans as well. morals have changed a lot over the years and that makes them relative. this is my opinion and thoughts on morals, and i'm no harvard graduate, so don't take this the wrong way.

There is nothing immoral about this. Nobody ever goes back for that kind of shit. I mean, it is kind of shady having to lie, but they are just going to be thrown out. It's like when you are at starbucks and they call someones name but they never come. So they ask the nearest person if they want the drink.

chargers are like leave a penny take a penny, you forget them at some places and take them from others. Just the way it goes. Whoever left their charger at the hotel probably didn't claim it because they went and took someone elses

I've been wanting to try this to get a charger or two for some projects.

My question is: If the hotel asks for your name and date of stay wouldn't that mean they have all the chargers marked with who left them and when they were left? If this is the case why wouldn't they try to contact the people who left them? That doesn't seem moral either.

ive had my phone chargers and macbook chargers stolen before, i cannot explain how big of a pita it is when that happens.

i keep breaking my phone and verizon keeps sending me new replacements that come with chargers so i have a stack of 7-8 casio rock chargers. win.

They're probably not marked, its just a quick test to make sure that you aren't lying to them. That seems pretty moral of them to at least try that.

I work in a Hotel.

If we find anything in a room, it has the room number and date it was found written on it. So you say Hi, my last name is Battesh, I stayed in room 332, checked out on 10/11/11 and forgot my phone charger in there.

SO unless you think that you'll get super lucky, drop the $10 and just buy one.
