Touring Boots HELP!

Yeah, I know... see a boot fitter.

Just did.

22.5 Scarpas and Black Diamonds were too big.

The 22.5 Dynafit gaia fit really comfortably but they seemed really soft in ski mode.

22.5 Dynafit tlt performance also fit and were the stiffness I'm used to, but they are also $1000 and I can't buy used ones cause they have had the same pair for 2 years now and I'm the first person to have tried them on.


So to you bootfitter/shop peoples If you have a pair of TLT5 mountains in a 22.5, inform me. If they are used or on sale, even better. I am seriously interested in ordering em. Tried on the 23.5 and they felt stiff enough (I've only ever worn race boots).


Hate my small feet.

Or if you know of something I may be missing, that would be cool too. A mysterious 21.5 out there... Let me know!

the atomic is the Tracker.  they made a bunch of improvements for this season and should be pretty good this season.

Have you checked out Garmont?  Dalbello and Salomon have touring boots this year too.

Tracker 130 is hands down the stiffest touring boot on the market. Though it doesnt feel like a true 130 it is the closest compared to the black diamond, garmonts, and dynafits in the 130 category. They have 98 last and fit pretty small. That being said for their solidity they are a very heavy touring boot. I love mine as a resort/touring boot, but wouldnt take them on anything longer than a day. Plus i am pretty sure they have not been changed since last year so you can find last years model for relatively cheap. But like I said, if you are going to be touring a lot look for something lighter.

The Atomic Tracker is a good option, but only goes down to a 25.  The Dalbello is available in a 23.5, but it might be too soft as well.

What about overlap Intuitions and Booster straps on the Gaia to stiffen the flex?  Add some race plates to the front as well?

since you're limited to size you're gonna have to get a soft boot. i recommend what was said above and putting some booster straps on the scarpas, although a lot of new scarpas now come with boosters. otherwise you could work on jerry rigging a stiffer tongue for your boots, i've seen it done with garmonts and dalbello tongues but not sure about options for scarpa

these are 23's but im fairly certain .5 and the next size up are the same shell. so 22.5 and 23.0 are the same shell. just a difference in the liner, maybe you can get them for a few bucks off since its OR BEST OFFER then save up for an intuition liner which would easily fill up any space.

also go in and offer those guys 600 bucks for those dynafit performances. if they are 2 years old and u are the first person to try them on seems like they would want to sell them.

You need to also check out the Boot Sole Length (BSL) of the boots as another tool to finding the right fit for you. A Scarpa 22.5 is the same as a 23.0, so it would fit big on you if you are a true 22 (265mm BSL).

And unfortunately (as I think you know) finding your size in used options will be highly unlikely.

dynafit .0 and .5 is the same, not .5 then .0.

This may not work. 
In the shop I worked in we never discounted our small(22-23) boots.  If you're the only one in the area to carry boots in that small a size, people will buy them without being on sale.

We sold a lot of 22.5 alpine boots.  And we always made full margin on them.

Lots of info here.

22.5 Scarpa is a no go. There was A LOT of room in there. I could probably fix it with zipfits and a booster strap... but Then I'd be spending $1000.

I'll look into those dalbelllos you speak of. The mountaineering shop up here doesn't carry em so it will probably be hard to try em out. May be able to find them in Tahoe.

I'm really in the 21.5 - 22 range. My langes are 21.5 with a pair of 22 liners and some of it shaved off at the toe so they fit. So the 22.5 fitting in dynafit with a footbed makes sense. Maybe I can look at the women's since it is only $600 and then try a booster strap and some other things to see if I can make it feel a bit more stiff.

Rach did ya look into the new tecnicas yet? Supposed to have a tour/alpine feature and I've been hearing good things. Not sure if they make a size small enough but it may be worth a look.

!!!! They make a 22! and its a 120 Flex! my boots right now are 110 So I'm pretty sure I can handle it. And I get Technica on Proform. Which leaves me wondering, do I order with out trying? I guess I'll see if my shop has a 100mm last in a 22/225.

Massively sad right now.

bootfitter said that the 22 shell for the tecnica is actually a 23 shell with a 22 liner. :(

I emailed tecnica to confirm, but it's looking more and more like I have to go dynafit and fork over $700. Still hoping that tecnica tells me otherwise or maybe our bootfitters will have some amazing solution to make the 23 shell work.

It seems you are looking for a race fit or close to for your touring boot?, I suggest to not be afraid of getting a little roomier fit, it will be much warmer and more comfortable on long tours. I definitely have bigger AT boots than my alpines.

Yeah a 23 shell with a 22 liner should work shimmed up. Do ya have a fitter friend who could hook it up?

Talked to our second best bootfitter today. He's the one who set up my current situation.

They fitted me in a 23 to see the lining/sole length so they could see how much work would need to happen to make them fit like a 22 sole length. He told me to get the tecnicas and he will make them work and said that they could proform or give me zipfits at cost if that ended up being the best option. Which would put the total at about $500 between boots/boot work and zipfits. But if I don't need the zipfits then it would be closer to $300.

Then I could buy the din sole set up and keep using my fd's for another year before forking over the cash for the dynafit bindings.

Thank you for your incredibly helpful recommendation.
