So I got a job at a ski shop...

just wondering what I should expect because I'm guessing some of you guys on here work at your local shop....

I tune skiis , I see the crap that they have to deal with in the shop, screw that not for me.

tuning i dont answer to anyone drink a beer and crank.. and i only work nights

Some of the questions youll get
" I heard those snowler blades are really fun what do you think?"
" The snow is waist deep out there you should be out there!" I tell this to the kids in the shop since i work nights and there stuck in the shop during the day..

"what is a ski boot?"
"how long are my skiis?"
"Im a expert skier but i havent skied on a mtn , only in nebraska."


anyway you get the point.. id quit and get a job tuning.

Welcome to the world of shop employeedom! Yep, what people said, learn a lot from the dudes who have been there for a while, listen in clinics, talk to reps, ask questions and get edumacated about the products, try to ski on as much stuff as possible and take advantage of working with gear in the sport you love, congrats!

Some thread-jacking in the middle there and to clarify, FT is a ski boot company, not a park ski boot company although some of the best prefer them. We make 3 freestyle boots, 4 all terrain/freeride boots, 2 women's (both freeride) and some youth. Tell your friends so we can grow and make more and continue bettering out gear yahoo!

ummm...


-i would recommend that you cater to the person your selling to, in terms of features, specs and that stuff.
if its some little kid, they dont care that their ski is 75mm underfoot, they care about how cool the graphics are, same applies with most girls, or moms. and if you see some park rat or big skier come in, they would prefer to know what the specs and features are.

-as its been said before, know your shit!!! i have gone into a shop before and asked questions about a ski that i already knew and have gotten bullshit answers and people who have no idea what their talking about, and i would never buy from someone who cant be honest and just ask if they dont know something.

-dont base thing off personal experience! just because you like the line step-up doesnt mean i will. and just because you broke a pair of domains last year doesnt mean you shouldnt sell the ski, theres a reasone its in the shop, and if it was an actual issue, it wouldnt be there.

i could go on but i think this thread basically covers it!

HOLY SHIT HE IS FREAKING RIGHT FOR ONCE. QUIT!!! Honestly Pail you have no buisness working in a ski shop, you know essentially nothing about skis and would mess people up so much. If you have to ask NS's advice about everything you know you aren't suited to work there. You dont deserve that job what so ever. Please do us, and the skiing commmunity in our area a solid and quit.

Just went in with my brother to get his boots/watch them get fitted. Intuition liners are just godly, no way about it. If they're done properly the fit is just unmatched, my brother went from a 26.5 to a 24.

i think i may have met that full tilt hater guy i went into a store and asked to try on a full tilt classic which i saw was on the wall he told me dont even try them on full tilt boots are actually so shitty. i left the store

Don't be a snob about whether people ski or snowboard. We're all on the mountain together, and I hate when people discriminate on skiers because they're snowboarders, or discriminate on snowboarders because they're skiers

Best thing you can do in a shop is get tight with all your local reps. If they like you and vice versa of course there are deals but you could score yourself a tech rep job. I did this twice and ended up getting weekends off to join salomons demo crew. Great times and a free set up every year.
