Conforming 60fps to 24fps on Windows.

I've seen lots of people talking about conforming 60 to 24, but it's all on Macs. The problem is, I don't have a Mac.


I've used 60fps in clip properties (in Sony Vegas), but the clip isn't anywhere near as smooth at it could be if it was conformed.


I've spent hours googling this and still haven't found anything. Does anyone know a program that lets you conform on Windows?

Yeah man I know what you mean. I use vegas too and the best way I have found is to keep your project in 60p, set your playback rate to .400, Disable resample, then render in 23.967.

This way when you keep your project in 60p it utilizes all of your frames and you can still render it in 24p. It's not perfect, but its pretty dang close.

I don't think it matters what your project settings are. The footage is treated independently from the project. Footage should still be treated as 60p even in a 24p project. I may be wrong tho.

That's what I thought for a long time. I always used 24 in project settings, but I have seen improvement from using a 60p timeline. I may be wrong though too. I haven't found any conclusive evidence other than from what I have seen.

unless vegas works differently than final cut, it drops frames. so if i drag a 60p clip into a 24p timeline, it will drop frames to make it 24p

You can use AE, they call it "interpreting" instead of conforming though. It would also be a painfully slow process (wouldnt be terrible if you edited in premiere) but looks like its all youve got.

no unfortunately it doesn't automatically do this. You have to manually under-sample 60p .4 to 24p or .5 to 30p. Probably the only thing I really hate about vegas. Heres a demonstration i made proving this.



If you pause the video on the first clip then pause the last clip and compare the two you can see that if you don't manually drop frames in Vegas it interlaces the frames.

If you rendered it in 24, it looks like you forgot to turn off the resample.

But I'm assuming you rendered it in 60p so that we could see the 60?

You only have to undersample if you were using a 60p timeline, exported in 60p and for some reason wanted it in 30p or 24p. As long as you are using a 60p timeline you can render at any frame rate as long as you turn of the resample.

Can somebody just tell me how to conform footage in Premiere. No fancy camera tech-talk necessary.

Whoops, didn't notice that it says 60p rendered at 24p. It looks like you are unaware of the "Disable resample"...

I'm pretty sure that in the project panel (with all of your files and folders) if you right click on a footage file there is an option called interpret setting or something like that. You can change how it interprets the footage. Choose frame rate and change it from 59.97 or whatever to 23.976 and then click drop frame. I am 100% sure this works in after effects so if this doesn't work in premiere just use dynamic link. That's the way i do it. Dropping the footage into a 24p timeline doesn't necessarily conform it but some programs (maybe premiere) automatically conform it.

don't bother. just set it to whatever speed you want and it will work

Its actually very easy in premiere. Someone already explained it, ya you cant batch conform but its probably good not all of your shots are slow anyway...
