Skiing in the cold.

Just curious, but we all ski in different places. Me if you haven't taken a hint, ski in Manitoba (It's all I got and it kinda sucks. It's the crap the east coast guys laugh at) We don't have nothing to big or too exciting here, but we do have alot of cold, and it friggen suck. An average ski day is about -15 Celsius, and the weather is usually a dick and it seems to more often than not drop down to -25 to -30. The coldest I'll ski in is about -25. I'd keep going, but beyond that, bandannas, bellaclavas or whatever just frost up and stick to your face, and my fingers start to hurt like hell. So reply to this with where you ski, average cold, and coldest you can ski in, make sure to say if your using Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Yeah skiing in the cold is pretty brutal, I've skied when it was -20 and when I got to the bottom my bandana was frozen to my face and I had to check that I still had fingers and toes.

Yeah the cold really sucks for skiing. I spent a bunch of money on these Dakine gloves one time and they were awefull, my fingers would freeze and skiing wasn't even fun anymore. Bought some swany MITTS and they were like 1000% better, but my hands still get cold. I'm surprised my Orage shell jacket gets her done too. I just discovered the difference between shell and insulated on here latley, and my Orage is deffinatley a shell jacket, not made for this kinda climate.

Mega jealous of you guys who ski in warm weather and get to ride powder to boot.

Haha. I love California. I've only been cold once in my entire life and that was when Mammoth had a -18F windchill. Other than that I enjoy the sunny weather that hovers in the twenties and low thirties mid-winter.

Yeah it seems to be the hands and face. My crappy salomon mission 4's were always really warm (and I'm hoping my Voodoo's will be mega warm) and whenever my feet have been cold in life, it hasn't sucked that much. Usually if my face and hands are warm, I feel warm.

I live in Northern B.C and it gets pretty damn cold here, I sometimes ski in -20C which sucks but can usually withstand to -25 or -30 if it's urban or when I'm making snow at my local hill, but sometimes it gets up to like -45 where it's too cold too even walk

With the wind it gets down to -50C once in a while. Regardless, the top of tremblant is cold as fuck.

Well you haven't skied there almost every weekend since you were 2. Tremblant averages like -20 to -30 at the coldest point of the winter, the odd day it gets down to the -40/50 range.

prolly about minus some single digit F. whenever its that cold though it seems to be an intense blower on top of that, so im really just cold on the chairlift. i really wouldnt want to ski much colder because then i have to start adding layers and bundling up and whatnot and i feel like it really inhibits my skiing

Lake Louise was -50C they had to close the gondola it was so cold haha. Shout out to all the prarie guys i live in east central Alberta :)

I ski in Co.  It's normally like 15 to 35 Fahrenheit. 

 The coldest I ever tried skiing in was -5ºF (-15º wind chill).  I lasted two runs before I had to quit.

on February 3rd last season, it was -48 F on the top of Steamboat. I skied that day for a couple hours. It was fuckin crazy haah, it was so cold that you couldn't slide on the snow. i had like 8 layers on

sugarloaf, maine is probably one of the coldest resorts in the us, i remember one day it never opened because it was -95F with windchill at the top

that means nothing, it could have been -10 and super duper windy in which case it was just the wind that made the mountain close, everyone posting temps that include windchill dont get it.

poor bastards in sask got it bad, I went there to visit relatives there one winter, they had the seconds until your exposed areas die on the local news. thats fucked.

coldest for me was -30c in BC this year.
wasnt wearing anything decent over my face, got a little bit of frost bite, wasted the better part of the day feeling like shit.. had some pizza and alcohol. got over it. would do it again just need to think about it a bit more.. + if it really clears out the slopes when its nice and chilly.

THE COLDEST IVE SKIED IN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WEATHER. IT WAS ONLY -24C, WHICH IS STILL PRETTY COLD, BUT IT WAS PUKING AND WINDY AS FUCK, ASWELL AS THE SNOWMAKERS BEING ON THE WHOLE NIGHT.

SO EVERY CHAIR RIDE UP I GOT ENDLESS BLASTS OF ICE IN MY FACE.

id say it was on average of -25*C to -30*C.

coldest i ever skied in would probably be around low 40's with the windchill. went in the chalet after 2-3 runs and thawed out.

that your posted temperature has as much to do with the wind as it does with the temperature. we are talking about extreme cold, not extreme wind.

No shit sherlock. 

We're talking about how cold it feels.  Wind and temperature both affect that.  Thus, wind chill is a good measure of how "cold" a day was.

I ski in the Banff area which is consistently pretty cold and has patches when it's brutal (-30s/-40s). Some days there's little point skiing: you drag yourself out of bed to find the lifts aren't running yet and when they finallly start slowly cranking them you can't move anywhere anyway because the snow is way too sticky. Then you have to go in every couple laps to warm your extremities up. At that point you start thinking you should've stayed in bed.

fuck that anything below negative 0 is in no way fun at all. Its way to cold out and unless its amazign conditions not worth it at all. Even your neck warmer freezes over after you breath on it. I prefer to spend those days sitting in the hot tub, hitting the gym, maybe going out for a dank lunch

-40 Celsius (I believe) last year, super windy. You could only get one run down before freezing to death, it was so cold. I only skied 3 hours and it sucked. It was in Quebec.
