They were flimsy, not very durable (I watched a friend delam them in 3 weeks), and all in all a waste of money if you wanted to ski anything other than rails. I've never had to p-tex a ski so much. If you so much as touched a rock, it tore out huge chunks of the base. Line let the Anthem die for a reason.
what if i told you that existed... i found a pair of the red and a pair of yellow 1260s in plastic the other day. same shop has the yellow invaders, and a few other pairs of vintage lines, in plastic.
The wolf Anthems were my first ski. I took them to Big Boulder's preseason rail jam. Some guy was like, "oh man those are fresh", I was like "thanks" and proceeded to eat shit and double eject on the flat box.
TRUTH, and for me it one of my favorite skis ever, not just for park..... line needs to go back to their roots and bring back the anthems and lizzies, it will give people the joy and amazing experiences that those skis gave me
Well for starters the wolf graphic is hands down the best graphic on this planet, I don't care what anyone else has to say. I rode those skis for 4 seasons till some little S.O.B. stole them, and besides a till top sheet chip, and skiing over a few huge ass rocks they held up. No edge crack, kept the flex, I love how soft and light they are. The symmetric shape of the ski also made it what is was known for. But for what really won it over for me was the 93 underfoot. I'm a big guy so when I'm hitting mach 3 on fresh groomers I like some stability, and also when coming down from big booters. If the Anthem were a woman I would marry it and make sweet sweet passionate love to it. The ski overall was without a doubt flawless.
the flex - soft is fun, not everyone likes sending big ass jumps
almost symmetrical/symmetrical
the dimensions (low turning radius is fun!) skis w a turning radius over 19 are boring
no rocker/camber! better for skiing on lots o ice
the durability of my few pairs of lizzies amazes me
i may have to try masterminds, but theyre just a tad narrow for my liking. id try bacons but i know they wont compare to my lizzies when its on a 200ft vertical rope tow park of ice all day
I'd forever love Line if they brought back the Anthems, I had to make them rail jam skis after they only came up to my neck but they were such a fun ski
Lol everything you said is so wrong. Masterminds are basically invaders, anthems are completely different. And only the og invaders had issues, every other year was bomb as fuck. Good move on Line's part bringing back old skis, I am extremely disappointed in their current offerings.
I picked up a pair of the spiral graphic anthems from the ski bum in Newark, DE. It was my first season back on the EC in 4 years after bumming in Taos, NM. I had never owned or even rode a truly symmetrical, center mounted ski. I was on the fence, but ultimately figured I'd be spending most of the season jibbing as trying to "explore the terrain" in the Poconos really means "ski flattish, icy groomers". I was drawn to the anthems because of the relatively wide waist. I think they're 95ish? As a bigger guy, I wanted a bit more platform and surface area under my boots, and also figured the extra mm's would make them slightly beefier and more versatile. I was right.
So, I had heard so much about how soft the flex was that I was sort of getting nervous that I was maybe too big and heavy to really use the ski. Well...I wasn't. I fucking loved it. I skied it every day in every condition and found it was pretty much perfectly suited to all kinds of all-mt. skiing. The soft flex, imo, made the ski seem snappy and lively. I just loved the idea of a ski that I could lean back on and manual like no prob, but that also would lay on edge and eat up groomers and side booters alike.
But the really cool part about the Anthems? Or...rather, why it ended up being the right ski for me? I skied to the chairlift at the backside base of Blue Mt. PA, and I ended up next to a guy in the liftline. I recognized the guy's outerwear from just riding a bunch, but for the first time, I noticed he was on Anthems. Having the same ski broke the ice, and the guy turned out to be a pre-Brobomb Jon Hartley. I had skied pretty much exclusively alone at that point, and that chance meeting had a profound effect on my "ski life". Through that chance run in, I met three of my best ski buddies, and had the opportunity to really plug in to the freeski culture. A few months later, Jon asked if I had any interest in writing a bit for a blog he was starting, and I said I'd see what I could come up with.
2 years later, even though I don't really contribute any more (I just don't feel like I have anything all that original, important to say about skiing, to be totally honest) the brobomb experience—and the opportunities/relationships I've built as a result—has been one of the most satisfying of my life. I've met my heroes (Levinthal being one of them), and have found myself in some places with some people I never thought I'd meet, let alone be friends with.
It sounds sappy, and sort of overly sentimental, I know....but I'm not being dishonest in saying that my life would be much different today had I not gotten Anthems. So....for me? Bring 'em back so I can replace the ones that were stolen. Who knows...maybe it'll reinvigorate me and get me type diarrhea-ing again.
