Every single Apple thread on NS:
First few posts: usually helpful
Then the Apple haters come crawling in wit "hurr durr Apple bad." "hurt durr my pc is as good as Apple." or any other argument and the flamewar starts again.
And to say a few things;
1. Apple is expensive!
Yes, that's true. Apple's business plan is low volume, high margins. And it ads to an "exclusive" feeling for some people.
2. I can build a 27' iMac for half the price!
I doubt it, the screen alone is 900 dollars, and then you may get the parts but can you fit them into an unibody aluminum housing roughly the size of the screen itself?
3. People paying ??? dollar extra for Apple design are stupid!
I don't think so and I know that many architects/designers agree with me that Jonathan Ive's industrial design inspired by Dieter Rams' ten principles is pretty well executed.
Some people buy a 5 dollar desklamp at ikea, some buy a 600 dollar desk lamp from Artemide. They will both function roughly the same, but people will still buy the Artemide if they like the design.
So far i.mo. no company has come close to Apple's design.
4. Windows/Android is more customizable!
That's true, but most people don't care about that, they just want a product that works. All the time every time with no fuss. That's the strength of Apple, and the reason they have such a high consumer satisfaction rate. Then again if you want you can jailbreak iOS devices, a bit more effort.
5. People buy Apple for the logo!
True, a lot of people do that. But that counts for so many things in live, clothes, cars, you name it.
6. My windows PC/Android has better specs at the same price.
True but due to the nature of the operating system it may even be slower: windows and android are made to work on a great variety of hardware configurations. iOS and MAC OS X are tailored to work with a couple of specific configurations.
This is the reason my iPhone 3GS will still feel very snappy even compared to my Galaxy IIS
My thinkpad which has a slightly better config then my macbook feels a lot slower, and no it's not covered in programs and shit.
Why can't we all just get along?
Who cares what phone/person another person has.
There is no "better" phone, there is just the phone that they chose what was best for them for reasons they found important and what best suited their needs.
