New tripod or kit lens upgrade

Hi guys I guess. I'm just looking for reassurance I am making the right choice . Right now I am shooting with a Sony a55 an want to step my video game up. Because I am shooting hand held , all I can really shoot are static shots . Any attempt at pans or tilts are horrible . Am I right in thinking my next purchase should e a legit fluid head tripod . Currently I have a cheap tripod but it doesn't cut it for video . Would movement in my videos make them much more dynamic and interesting . Right now I find them a little dull even when shooting short clips . Or should I upgrade the 18-55 3.5 -5.6 kit lens . Other lenses I have are a Helios 55mm pentax 58mm minolta 70 210 and a Sony 35mm . I am worried the added load of carrying the tripod will put me off taking it anywhere I need it . Oh yeah and this setup won't be used for skiing ......
