A Real Question about full tilts.

First off: if you plan on helping, read everything I have to say. Hopefully my information isnt to jumbled.

Quick backstory:Allright, so ive had my current boots since 2007 (old boots: http://www.evo.com/outlet/alpine-ski-boots/nordica-speedmachine-8.aspx). I WAS interested in the new nordica line but their biggest freeride size is 29.5 and their other boots are way to expensive.So now im looking at the full tilt konflicts (which I can get on sale), they seem like the right stiffness etc. The trouble is, I cannot try them on at my local store(s) because they never ordered the 30. I am planning to order some offline (and return them if they dont fit possibly). ALSO, THERE ARE ONLY 4-5 MODELS AT MY LOCAL SHOP THAT COME IN A 30-30.5 AND THEY ARE ALL MODELS I DONT WANT/ARE TO WIDE/ARE TO STIFF, SO DONT TELL ME TO GO GET A REAL BOOTFITTER.

So here is my info:

Height:6'4
Weight:215
Current boot size: 30.5
Current boot flex: 100-110
Current boot forefoot width: 100mm
Current boot's age/ how long ive used it since: 2007


So I tried on the 29.5 full tilts and they felt a little to short for me. The bootfitter at the store said I had a fairly narrow and long foot.

I measured the width of my feet with a metal ruler and got about 4 inches. So because the ruler draped off my feet a little bit (because its metal), I am assuming it is closer to 3.9 (99mm) or so (check pic). The length of my feet was just about a foot long (dont take this as an exact measurement, but it was close, check pics).

Well, I tried to include everything I can think of. Hopefully it makes sense and I didnt forget anything. I will answer any other questions people have. My current plan is to order them from evo and just see if they fit and return if they dont, but Id rather be more certain before I order them.

INB4- EVERY FOOT IS DIFFERENT, GET A BOOT FITTER.

I definitely think you should order them just to try them out. If the bootfitter directed you towards full tilts, those are probably best. And if they feel wrong, just return them! About how they fit for me, I wear a size 9 or 9.5 street shoe, and have moderately narrow feet. I rock a 27.5 full tilt with no footbed, but they feel a tad tall, so I think I'm going for some footbeds this year. The width is just perfect though, as is the length, although I could probably go down to a 27. Try them! if they dont work, send them back.

One of the things you are going to have to check is a shell fit, not only for length and width but for volume. Just because your foot measures 100mm, it does not necessarily correlate to your shell width since width is only one measurement in the fitting process. What you cannot measure on your own is volume and consequently your foot's volume compared to the shell's. Only once you have your foot in a shell, will you know how your specific foot interacts with the contours and volume of the shell.

Until then, it's only guess work. So if you have to order a special size, make sure you check with the shop about their return policy on "special orders".

I wear a size 10.5 in Nikes and my Konflicts are 26.5 and fit perfectly. But you really can't judge whether or not a boot fits just by the length, there is arch, instep, heel pocket, how tall your foot is etc. They may be good in length but the heel may be too tight/wide, or whatever. Why narrow it down to just Full Tilts? Even if you can get them cheap, good fitting boots are worth it in the long run. That's why you should go to a boot fitter. :):)

And my shop claims the #8 tongue is 110-120, but I swear its nothing over 100 and I'm only 5'9 155lbs.

your kinda taking a shot in the dark here, but if you get them the right size, the liners should mold to your foot, to an extent so they could end up fitting

no this is just a guy thinking that giving all this information is actually going to help him get the answer he's looking for.

as onenerdykid already said, it's almost impossible to know how your foot is going to interact with a shell without actually trying it on.

just so you know, if a boot feels "a little too short" in a shop, especially a Full Tilt with an Intuition liner that will significantly mold to your foot, there's a pretty good chance that it's going to fit right.

just out of curiosity, what size shoe do you wear?

I can get shell fit for the 29.5 konflict if I want to go back to the shop and ask. Obviously 29 and 30 are different shell sizes, but would I get a semi-close idea of how the 30 would fit by doing this?

Really depends on brand and what type of shoe it is. so id say size 13 on average.

Well I wear a 13 shoe in just about anything. Sometimes a 12 but I wear a 29.5 Konflict and it fits perfectly. Once you mold out the liner and put a footbed in you should be fine

I didnt really "narrow it down" to full tilts, its just that the alternatives are far out of my boot budget. My first choice was either the ace of spades or the fire arrows, but the fire arrows are about 700 at my shop and I guess ace of spades only go up to 29.5. Also, the whole heat-molding thing sounded really nice as well as the interchangeable tongues.

the other couple of boots available at my shop that come in my size just seemed to bulky and wide. Im still looking around at other options though. The thread has been helpful though.

Basic shell measurements (like width) are taken from usually a 26.5. So an Original FT is 99mm at 26.5, and boots GENERALLY get 2mm wider per shell as you get bigger, 2mm narrower as you get smaller. So by the time you get to 29 or 30, you will be obviously wider than 100mm...

And if memory serves me correctly, 29 BSL is 326mm and 30 BSL is 335mm. So, with a 9mm difference in BSL (10mm is the norm between sizes), one of those shells is going to be the wrong match for you.


Unfortunately, there is no fool proof way to tell unless you can try them on. Ask your shop to see if they will order one for you and if it doesn't work will they take it back?
