Center mount vs midsole.

I dropped my line SFBs at a shop, talked to guy there and decided to mount on the line, I was already kind of planning on that, so i walked back with the woman from the counter to pay up and she had heard the conversation I had about mounting, I tell her I want them on the line and she writes down center mount.

I asked her "On the mid sole right?" and she said yep, and I asked "for sure?" and she said yes, and I kinda stood there awkwardly and said "I couldn't help but notice you wrote center mount, I don't mean to question you but isn't that usually the center of the ski?" and she said no center mount means mount the skis so the center of the boot is on the line, hence center mount. I said alright and left.



Is that how most techies would interpret a note saying center mount?




I kinda feel nervous, I know i shouldn't be, they are a shop and I am sure most customers mount on the line, so they should all speak with the same terms, but I was hoping for some reassurance.


Besides that, the store is freaking awesome for such a local store, prices competitive with, or better than internet retailers and super friendly staff. Just thought I should add that because its true.

Yup, sounds like there is going to be some miscommunication. Mid sole (from a tech's perspective) is going to be where the factory recommends a mount (which I think for those is 2.5 cm back from true). Center mount (or true center) is the exact midpoint from the tip to the tail.

If she wrote down center mount, and I was drilling your ski, I would find the exact center and mount there.

Call em up ASAP and get that confirmed. Good luck homie.

so many sketchy tech out there, i was getting my skis mounted at one of the biggest most popular shops in australia and  explained to the tech that the heel peice on my jesters had been moved forward as far as it would go to accomodate smaller boots and that i wanted it move back to a neutral position and mounted 4.5 back from true center. I explained this no joke 4 times then came back half an hour later to find the heel peice in the same fucking position, later got the ski remounted with fks 155s and the tech at this different shop told me the measurements on the ski were off and the last tech had mounted the binds a full cm differntly to each other, needless to say im never going back to the first shop again.

I hate the lack of good techs out there. Wish there was a registry or list to track the good ones down. To make mounting as idiot proof as possible I mark with wood pen/crayon on the sidewall of the ski to make sure they mount it there. I then leave 2 sticky notes saying to mount off that line I marked and to also not follow the topsheets, even if the look even. Measure the hell out of that ski before you take it in. Make their job simply drilling, thats it.

If you ever feel worried when you are getting your skis mounted again, do some research on where the best spot to mount them are and then just put some tape where you want them mounted so if they fuck up, it's their fault.

Yeah sounds to me like traditional mentality vs newschool mentality. Like the chick at the shop had a traditional mentality thinking center mount means midsole line centered on the line on the ski. This is what ya wanted but the problem will be if the tech has a newschool mentality and sees center mount which to him means dead center. So he mounts it there. I'd def call. Also just for curiosities sake, how far back is the line from dead center on those? I mounted last years bacons at dead center and they were super super fun. Not for everybody and this year has that sidecut so I wouldn't recommend it but was curious. I've got the opus and mounted them at the recommended line after doing exhaustive measurements. The line on those is -2 from dead center but there's a +1.5 difference between the early rise in the tip compared to the tail. So as far as running surface is concerned and you combine that with the sidecut, the recommended line actually is a dead center mount on the opus. Curious if the new bacons are the same.
