Another new skis thread

Hello, my name is Jarrett and I ski in the Northeast (new hampshire). I am an advance type 3 skier that skis everything except park.  I need an everyday ski.  Something soft and playful (i like to hit all the little lips and stuff on the side of the trail) but can also charge hard and hold its edge when i hit the throttle.

I do mostly hardpacked but we get a few pow days each season and i go with a couple friends in the trees in my town.  Im 6'2", 175 pounds and ill be 18 in a month.  budget will be no more than 700 without bindings.

ill take any other offers

The MSP

I have a pair and they are so great. They respond so well and make great turns at high speeds. They are fantastic for poor snow, and I use them on pow days and they float fine as long as the snow isn't 8+ inches or so.

Softer skis, by fact of design, cant rail as hard as stiff skis on hardpack. Rocker allows you to butter more easily with a stiffer ski, might be a good compromise.


If you do go J-mo, definitely go for the 186.

plenty of cats are gonna think im nutz, but......... my aces hold their own pretty damn good outside the park. For being a true center mounted pipe ski, they are my all time faves all mountain as well!

I'm sorry, but when anyone recommend symmetrical park skis for all-mountain, I automatically think that they have never tried any skis that actually carve well.

I'd take a look at the Nordica Soul Rider.  Camrock profile and a full vertical sidewall build, 97 under foot but the ski still rails on hard pack, it is on the stiffer side but but rocker profile makes it super playful.  This guy is a buddy of mine that is about the same size as you....http://www.skis.com/docs/nordica-soul-rider-skis-2012-video-review-2/ and you can easily ski the 185cm.

you are so incorrect, been on everything fron xtremes, to tigersharks, i guess its all personal pref. i snowboarded much of my youth, i jumped into skiing being center mounted from the start, and love the stiffness the metal gives that ski. guess its personal pref.

also am i incorrect in thinking he was asking about all mountain skiing, which means the whole mountain, not just downhill carving, you need to peep some of the reviews all over the web where over and over, seasoned, advanced level ski testers again and again test the aces and are extremely impressed by its all mountain capabilitys in and out of the park, and on and off the groomers. Since you said this, I automaticly think that youve never tried a pair of aces....

I've demoed the ARVs. I only had a coupe of runs (hardpack) on them so I won't go too much into detail.

They felt like solid no-nonsense skis. Very boring at low speeds but rewarding when you open the throttle more. They were mounted too far back for my tastes though, a more forward mount might make them more responsive at lower speeds.

Jmos can rip gs turns, shred bumps and fresh on the side, hit lips back into a groomer, and butter a roller all in the same run. All while blasting through crud with easy, and with the magic of bamboo under your feet. once you ski bamboo, everything else just feels dead and pointless.

j-mo would be perfect for you. Plus I guarantee they are the most durable, well crafted ski of all the ones you are looking at.

thanks man. i had the impression that the j-mos were too stiff and wont be a playful ski. also, they are rockered. are they only rockered on the tips? so they wont affected my skiing on ice or groomers?

got it down to on3p jmos, moment tahoes, and armada arvs? can someone list with are stiffer than the others?

leaning towards jeronimos, but they are so expensive. how do the arv's compare?
