thanks for the reply.  im still realitively new to video so thats why i made this. just experimenting with different settings, angles, etc

only when not recording, but still in live view, so before you record pick what you want to be in focus, or if you want the majority of what your shooting to be in focus set your aperture at f11 and focus to infinity

A lot of those shots looked really soft, I think I read somewhere that on kit lenses when you zoom in the picture gets softer. Somebody confirm?

some nice shots man! quick question as ski season is super close, what's the best way to keep a skier in focus for a rail or jump? moving with him? or from a fixed point?

shoot at f/8 - f/16
just cause you can do depth of field with your HDSLR doesn't mean you should..

i know they look soft but is that bacause they are out of focus or is it the lens? I would like to know this as well..

If you're shooting on the maximum aperture on your lens, that will make it softer. I also believe zooming in further might make it a little softer on cheaper lenses as well, not sure about that though. It will definitely help to get your focus spot on too.

You mean, just because you can have a shallow DOF doesn't mean you have to? Doing "depth of field" doesn't make sense.

This times a thousand. I'm so tired of seeing pointless shallow DOF footage.

Also, don't focus to infinity. Move the focus ring to infinity, then back off just a hair. Infinity focus is for shooting things past the confines of our planet (stars/nebulas/planets), not landscapes.
