For those men who drink...a question

so last night I was at work (I was a hostess in a restaurant) and the guy I like came in with a friend. They sat at the bar and ordered some drinks. He had a glass of white wine, his friend had a beer, and they had a hot sake between the two.

my question is: does it "mean" anything when an older guy drinks wine? or is it just the brainwashing belief by tv I have that men only drink beer?

I'm just curious as to what other men/males think of other males who drink something (wine) other than what the media has men drink (beer). if that makes sense

I always pre drink with wine, a nice big bottle of baby duck then head to the bar feeling fine. its also always my drink of choice for house partys

Also, it IS unusal/unorthodox/uncommon/curious/intriguing that this guy ordered a glass of white wine at a bar with a male friend....it just is.

 I'm not saying the guy is gay, or anything like that. Many men drink a lot of wine, and prefer it over hard booze and/or beer. I would say though that, more often than not, men drink wine at home, with meals, or for some other occasion. I honestly can't recall a single instance of a male friend of mine ordering wine a at a bar. Matter of fact, I don't remember a female friend ever doing so. For all we know, the guy rarely (never?) drinks, and white wine is one of the few things he can tolerate or is comfortable/used to drinking.

To me, ordering white wine at a bar (obviously many bars are located in upscale restaurants with extensive wine lists, so this isn't the best analogy for all circumstances) is like ordering filet mignon at McDonalds—you just wouldn't do it.

And, last thing I'll say about this, it would've seen so much more.......reasonable? (not the word I'm looking for, but it'll do) had he ordered a red, say a cab, chianti, or noir, I wouldn't even have blinked. I grew up in an area with a shit ton of Italian Catholics (My dad being one of them) and these kids were raised on red wine and drink it almost daily.

Also, I hate you all. Except, like, ten of you.

My dads a complete wine-o. Defiantly not gay because I'm here and he's been with my mom for like 40 years or something. Heck yeah for guys drinking wine.
J10 and I will have a glass of wine every once in a while. It's always a good night when we have a few glasses of wine.

You know how I can tell most of you are teenagers? You judge people based on what they drink. Seriously, can you possibly BE any more of the stereotypical high school/college ner do well who always says "omg you 're only allowed to drink pisswater beer or Monarch or else you're a pussy?" /rant

On a serious note, let me start by saying that I prefer a good beer over a good wine. Having said that, 99% of the time I will bring a bottle(s) of wine to a party and not touch beer. Why? Because shitty wine tastes much better than shitty beer imo. At Grocery Outlet I've found $70 bottles of wine for $7, which was a no brainer considering my other choices at parties are Miller, Bud, Coors, or some other form of cheap shitty beer.

Also, wine is much healthier than beer. It just is. Plus, wine-drunk is the best drunk. It's a solid middleway between beer drunk and gin-drunk.

I think it's kind of ironic how wine is more of a party drink for me. I love casually drinking wine with a meal, but not as much as I LOVE casually drinking some homebrew IPA with a meal.

So really, I think I use wine as a party-drink because I'm such a beer snob. The difference between $10 wine and $70 wine isn't nearly as disgusting as the difference between PBR and homebrew.

I love wine, and wine drunk, don't get me wrong. But showing up at a bar without a woman in tow and sitting next to your bud to order a white?? then sharing a hot sake with him??

I agree just drinking wine in no means makes me question anyone's sexuality, but you gotta take in the scenario here.

I say OP just hits on him so we can all find out the truth here.

The reason I don't brink nice beer to parties is because I won't fully enjoy the crafted taste if I'm just downing it...

I agree though, when I'm at a bar, I get a nice beer.

Also, getting a nice wine at a bar and sharing a sake with someone is unconventional, but it says nothing about a person's sexuality. Hell, if I saw someone do this I'd be quicker to think they were more comfortable with their sexuality and therefore more "straight" than the douchey meathead pounding Keystone because he feels the need to prove his manliness.

I think that's  what most people (those even being half serious) have really said, just that: it's unconventional. Not at all necessarily reflective of his sexuality, but definitely a play that would raise my eyebrows.

I'd agree with that last statement if said dude was alone at the bar.

There is just too little context here to make an accurate assumption on this man's wrist strength. Perhaps he just had a fat meal and he wanted to unwind with a sweet white for dessert. I'll withhold any further assumptions until we get some more details. Age could be a good one, like what is OP calling older??? Mid twenties sippin white with your buddy = maybe questionable. Mid thirties enjoying a white at the bar = possibly just sophisticated palate.

As men yes, if that was the case we would have ended the discussion. Although in this case the OP is an interested female, so she has good reason to want to make an assumption on his sexuality.

I think we can all agree though, she isn't helping herself by asking NS. If she really wanted to know she would have downed a glass of white herself and slid him a crafty ass grab.

Haha I was at one point...before I discovered that wine was a better party drink. I also like carrying around one bottle for the night. Sometimes I'll use a special pirate wine-bottle with rope burned around the neck that can be attached to one's belt...

Besides, wine has more alcohol than beer, so I never understood why it was considered a "pussy" drink...

yeah, honestly girls, never think that a guy will be dismayed if you approach him at the bar and chat him up. us guys, we need an in sometimes, but no guy has ever thought "boy it's really weird that this girl is talking to me out of the blue" (unless youre ugly and way too aggressive). if you see this dude you like again, go chat him up and you'll have your answer in about 10 minutes tops
