Need help for a ski trip for my dad's 50th anniversary

So my mom just told me that she wants to give my dad for his 50th a ski trip with me (19) and my bro (21).

We've never ski trip outside QC and Jay Peak. We're looking for kind of a Pow trip out west. 
I was thinking of place like Whistler and my dad was talking about Utah the other day.

So I'd like some suggestions for where we could go and why. It would be in the first week of january. And could you say what's the legal drink age in that state/province.

your best bet is Utah. you're almost guaranteed to get a storm and the mountains out there are awesome

Utah or Montana

Shhhh don't tell alta, but montana has the greatest snow on earth.

the drinking age is 21 in every state in the U.S., I believe it is 19 in every canadian province except for QC which you obviously know is 18.

if you want good terrain and snow, and you wanna go stateside, tahoe, utah, or montana. tahoe has a knack for being pretty dry in january though, so keep that in mind, the best month in tahoe is march.

so if you wanna go stateside in january, utah or montana.

if you wanna stay in canada, coastal B.C. or i believe rettalack and revelstoke were mentioned above, also keep Banff in mind too.

Utah is sick, rent a house on homeaway and a 4x4. Whistler will be sick, revelstoke too.

I always tell people to go to Revelstoke and Kicking Horse. Easily the two best mountains I've ever skied.

Don't get sucked into Banff. You'll regret missing out on the good stuff, which is only 1-3 hours west.

so salt lake city's mountains wouldn't be suggested in early january ?

grand targhee, with Jackson hole 45 mins away.

Same snow as utah, more of it, literally zero people. Great family/upper intermediate area. Jackson is close by if you really want to challenge yourself.

I was disappointed by targhee. Jackson hole was amazing though.

of the resorts ive been to...

1- either snowbird or alta - I cant really think of anything bad about either. They are super close to salt lake and every run is amazing (and there is A LOT of terrain).

2-Jackson hole- there is something for everyone and you have fun wherever you go. However, it seemed like there was a little to much green-blue terrain (I was just expecting more, some people might agree with me).

3-Bachelor- I ski at hood so its not to far away. Ive just always liked the area and the mountain. You can ski on both sides of the mountain from the summit down. Lots of fun to be had.

come out to Taos for a week!!!  no crowds, gnarly terrain, and definitely one of the most culturally rich towns in the country.  drinking age is 21.

Well I guess that by anniversary in English you mean that he's dead... In french we can use both, so sorry about that. I was meaning birthday.

normally anniversary refers to a wedding anniversary, or celebrating an event that happened a certain amount of years ago...pretty much never a birthday. I know youre not a native speaker so just letting you know for the future.

Anyways, Interior BC would def be where you should be looking. They get lots of consistent pow, and the drinking age is 19 so you can share a beer with your pops.

If you wanna stay in Canada you get couple choiceand you can mix them up too.
coastal bc : Whistler blackcomb really touristic,= line up, lot of terrain,sick park, huge resort, lot of night life, really good early season snowfall so it's a good bet

interior bc : Revelstoke is amazing, lot of terrain, good snow, good early season, no crowd so no line up u just run into the chairs in week days :P but on pow day wake up really early because the line up at the bottom is huge and you wanna get those fresh tracks, dont miss out, 7 am 7 -30 in the line up! nice town, good restaurant, night life is growing it's all right , No park but i dont think your dad is into park skiing , lot of hucking everywhere anyway

kiking horse conditions are pretty much as good as revy , the town is a little less charming


white water ,nelson,is really nice town 3 hours south of revelstoke so if you want to mix , conditions are really good , hill little bit smaller than the two others in term of vert but still lot of terrain and amzing pow. best caferia in a ski resort , they have the best food for sure
no crowd no line up
than there is red 1-2 hours south again which is also amazing . No crowd no line up

if you wanna hit a park and have good pow and be in the interior , big white and silverstar are close from kelowna airport and still close to revelstoke which is the most in this list according to me since whistler is over crowded.



so overall whistler is a good bet for a good groomers, in bound powder and easy to access backcountry, and you have a park . Mais il y en a au quebec aussi , niaise pas et va skier de la vrai pow
But in the last two years interior BC have get the biggest storms in the first two weeks of january so Revelstoke win the battle!!!!

I would think about hitting up Steam Boat in Colorado. I go the first week of January every year and last year they got 36 inches in less than 12 hours.

Drinking age is 21 unfortunately for you...

if your dads a hardcore skier looking for powder, then alta is your place. my dad wont ski anywhere else in utah he loves it there so much.

I'm taking my dad on ski trip for his 50th birthday as well.  We're either going to Alta or Jackson Hole.

We're starting to look at a 8 days trip in the west with 3 ski days at Revelstoke and 3 days at kicking horse.

mainly because, as a whole, the east coast is flatter than paris hiltons chest...not to mention she blows more snow in 1 night than the east coast gets in a season. Plus its filled with massholes and guidos.
