hey Ns, I have a big choice to do to buy my new jacket for 2012 .Question: did saga is warm(hot) egnouth for the winter like to - 20F ?because I really dont know that and i know than armada has really hot jacket.

Saga is not insulated, you pm about this. I say you its fine if you layer, like a icebreaker and a hoodie. So if you are not sure, buy the armada.

Either way would be totally fine. Just layer up underneath the saga and you'll be just peachy in -20.

with the saga (being a shell), you can either layer up/down depending on the conditions.

Saga is a shell. it's not meant to be worn much below freezing with proper layering. for every 5 degrees below 30 it gets you should add at least 1 tall tee.

This is true though.


I usually layer like this.

1.under armor long sleeve

2.any tee shirt that has less then %10 cotten

3. A north face fleece layer (if colder)

4. Cabella's leather/fleece vest, this thing is the warmest single peice of clothing i own.

5. Sweatshirt (i try to stray away from cotton but i will wear it every now and then)

6. Armada tracer jacket.




I just got the tracer, but i've used this set up many times before and it has never failed. I'm sure i could take a layer away with the addition of my tracer.

I Used my saga jacket last year when it was -20. It sucked dick the first day but the second day I added more layers and it wasent as terible. Id say you would be fine Just layer right like the other people said.

I don't think that you are listening to other people. They are basically telling you that yes, you could get it, but you are going to have to layer up a hell of a lot more than you would with an insulated jacket. Personally insulated is the way to go, I hate having to wear more than one sweater and shirt.

But hey, if you really want it that's your problem.

It's all preference too. I like to be colder so I nirmally only wear a shirt, sometimes a light sweatshirt underneath, with no insulation in my jacket

Buy the armada, it is a nicer looking jacket and you will not have to worry about being cold in it. I have had a shell before and yes you can put on 5 layers and be warm but then you are just super uncomfortable.

It is still water/wind proof it just is not insulated so it will not keep much heat in.

i've never been, but i think with a quality long sleeve baselayer, nice midlayer and a shitty saga jacket i think you would at least manage.


good baselayer=/=saga thermal

nice midlayer=/=jiberish cotton sweatshirt

i'm talking patagonia R1 base and R4 mid.

Ive been out in -25 Celsius not including windchill which was probably another -10 at least in my saga suit, i had a thermal base layer, thin long sleeve t-shirt, a hoody and my saga and it was absolutely fine. I closed up the vents and it was toasty!

oh shit i'm from the US so obviously i have no grasp of the Celsius temperature scale.

i get how fucking cold that is. trust me, canananananadia isn't the only place in the world that gets chilly. i still fully stand by my advice that this little goon will be fine in his poorly made Saga jacket if he properly layers with quality tech clothing layers underneath. plus -20 isn't even that cold...if i remembered the conversion formula correctly that's barely below 0 F.

Like mentioned before, it really is key to layer with the Saga jackets. Coldest day I had in my setup was -25 (sledding in Cooke City). It worked super well all though I had long underwear, a fleece, and a soft shell under it.
As long as you have other items to layer with, you will be just fine.

there is absolutley no point in buying saga. why would you pick a jacket with the same fit as the armada (longer cut) but that doesnt have isolation, if your worried enough about warmth to make a thread about it. i got a saga jacket and i would have opted for the armada no question if it wasnt consistantly pretty warm here.

you're asking about the "best outerwear" and you're talking abotu Saga or Armada?

if you want the best ski outerwear look at DNA(Descente), Spyder, Arcteryx, The North Face, etc...
