California Colleges

I'm form CT but I'm going out to college out in California after this year. Thing is, I don't have time to go out there & visit any schools & it sucks because regular decision there is 11/30 & im going 12/30. Either way, for those who have been out there/know something about the schools there... i want to know what are the nicest colleges there. I have a GPA of 2.9ish but i've been looking at

-CSU fullerton
-CSU northridge

& after that i have no idea. I mean theres UCSB, pepperdine etc.. but i dont have the grades to get in. but which CSU campus is the nicest? I'm trying to stay down south by LA. Help me out

dont go to school out in the valley, there are no blue skies there, just slightly less smoggy days. seriously its fucking awful.

why dont you go to a jc for 2 years, get a baller GPA and then transfer to UCLA, UCSB, USC, UCI etc...some great schools in great areas.


Take a look at the Arizona schools too if youu want the socal/party vibe.

First of all, Northridge and Fullerton fucking suck. All the bad aspects of living in southern California with very few positives. Trust me, I'm doing you a favor, you'll hate both those places. The traffic is horrible and you'll rarely go to the beach.

Not to be mean but you're GPA isn't doing you any favors. You don't have a chance at any of the UCs, at least not straight out of high school. If you're dead set on going to southern California, the only two CSUs I would even look at are Long Beach State and San Diego State (although SD is more competitive, I don't think you'd even get in). There's also Chico State in northern California, fun party school and reasonably close to Lake Tahoe, same good weather as southern cal.

If I were you I would seriously consider going to a junior college, just because of your GPA. You should check out Santa Barbara City College and Cuesta (it is in San Luis Obispo). If you buckle down you'll hopefully get good enough grades to transfer into UCSB, Cal Poly, or San Diego State.

oh yea i know my gpa isn't good but thats because of my adhd. Ive been on meds for 3/4 of a year now & since then my grades have been really good. For whatever it matters i have a 96 average right now as a senior, including two AP classes & the rest honors.

I'm not trying to go up north. I've been thinking about Arizona or TX but im not a big party person. & yea, my original plan was to do two years in like csu & then transfer to any UC.

None of that stuff really matters now, I mean applying to a CSU it might look better that you improved towards the end, so that could slightly improve your chances.

Don't go to a CSU in order to transfer to a UC. They hardly accept any CSU transfers. You'll have much better odds attending a California junior college, they have a much higher transfer rate to UCs. Don't ask me why it works like that, I'm just sharing the facts.

Go to Santa Barbara or San Diego

my brother is a senior right now and he also skis, he got accepted into ucla but he scored a 2200 on his sat's and 4.0 gpa, u have to be pretty smart to get in though but the campus's are nice

Your grades are low but try Cal Poly Pomona. That is my Alma mater. Cal poly has a better name then both of those schools. I think they were ranked the 6th best public non doctorate granting university on the west coast this past year. Cal poly has a awesome campus, active ski and snowboard club, and is not far from LA, the beach and skiing.

Do what everyone else is saying. Go to a JC for two years, get your gen ed. out of the way, and then transfer into a UC, Cal Poly, or SD State.

Is 2.9 your weighted GPA? I know I had a 3.0 in Minnesota and because of my AP classes it was weighted as a 3.45. Then I had a pretty high SAT score so that probably helped substantially.

But yeah, there are a few really good CC's like Santa Monica Community College, Pasadena City College, and even Mt. San Antonio College that are all pretty good.

As far as CSU's. Check out Long Beach too. I don't think I'd personally want to go to Northridge. Fullerton is a pretty decent area though and it only takes around 25 minutes to get to Newport/huntington beach from there. Cal Poly Pomona was a wonderful school. Loved it all 5 years. Amazing beautiful campus. Only thing is that for certain degrees it is near impossible to get in, same goes for Cal Poly SLO.

If you plan to ski, check and see if the school you are interested in has a club or team. That will make a huge difference. I don't think Fullerton or Northridge have active clubs. neither does CSULA as far as I know. Long beach, Pomona, SLO, and SDSU do for sure. UCSB, UCLA, USC, and UCSD all do as well, but you wont likely get in to any of those.

If money isn't an issue, there are some great smaller schools like Azuza Pacific, Loyola Marymount and so forth that if you apply to the right program may accept you.

that's unweighted. & I mean if I'm going all the way out to Cali from CT, I wouldn't really want to go to a CC although there are nice ones there. As for skiing, I've given it up & im on this site to just chill in NSG. I'm going to something related towards business. I would like to stay kinda south. Not trying to go too far north & the closer to the beach the better, although I want to be close enough to LA

I'll be blunt. With your grades it's going to be tricky getting into the school of your choice right away. You can forget about a UC. That's why we are suggesting CC, so that you can get into your college of choice and save yourself a lot of money while at it.

I live in LA. Both these schools are not top notch but if you want to get into the entertainment industry Northridge would be the right place to go. Really, if you want to end up working in the entertainment industry your success depends on your performance at your job and who you know. If you end up going to Northridge and party in Hollywood it will be easy to meet the right people within your same industry. You can make just as much or more money per year in the entertainment industry as lawyers or doctors if you network well and link up with the right contacts.

If you are trying to get a great education ad go into a field like medicine or law, don't go to either of these schools.

I'm currently in my 2nd year at Cal Poly SLO and absolutely love it. I admit, it's a bit hard to get to the mountains but if you join the ski club you'll be able to ski, and party. CPSC has the craziest parties. As for your grades, depending on which major you would want to apply into, you might be able to get in. I definitely recommend checking it out. exactly why I'm trying to head out to Cali & stay near the LA area. I'm trying to get into probably music management & I have solid connections in the hip hop music industry, such as Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Sam Adams, & LA artists Casey Veggies & Kid Ink along with Karen Civil who essentially runs shit down at Young Money in LA. & have some connections in the electronic communities & have prior experience in the field. I want to be near LA for that reason.

As for the person speaking about my grades. Yea i know I dont have the best grades & i know the UC's are out of the picture. They're the schools I want to transfer into after 2 years. As for helping my case about my grades, I have solid reasoning to why my grades were poor sophomore & junior year, & hopefully after speaking with admissions about it, they'll strongly look into my grades this first semester as i just checked on powerschool and have a 96 average. Once again, I know it's still not good with my overall GPA, but it should help.

& in all honesty I appreciate everyone who has said something here because I found out a ton of stuff I didnt know. I'll look into Cal Poly & if anyone else has anything for to say that'd be dope.

Cal Poly Pomona... you can get a degree in Music Business. The school has crazy ties with Clear Channel and has an amazing internship program. That and classes consist of pro tools and so forth.
