Fishing???

I love flyfishing for bass with bass plugs. Tons of fun if all the streams around you are too polluted for trout, which is definitely the case when you live 20 mins from DC.

I recommend to try pike fishing lots of fun.

pike fishing is pretty sweet...they are definitely gnarly lookin fish.  i actually tried fly fishing for bass this past summer with no success.  just ended up catching bluegill and crappie almost every cast...still fun though

when I was a kid I got bit by a pike and have hated those ugly fuckers ever since.

i fish alot in the summer in priest lake idaho, for various trout and other native fish. have any of you ever fish mackinaw? bigest lake trout in the world.

I have a feeling I'll be posting in here a lot. Between fishing and skiing, I got my year covered.
I love going for anything, and being from VT it works out really well (we have more fish species than any other New England state, and most others outside NE). My latest thing has been steelhead. I discovered that a small river less than 5 minutes away from my house has a decent steelhead run, so I stop by on my way home from school a bunch. Here's some fish from this fall.

steelhead might be my favorite freshwater fish to catch.  they are beautiful, they fight like crazy, and they taste amazing...not to mention that you typically catch them in some of the most beautiful places on earth.

im thinking about getting into fishing this year, what kind of setup would you guys use. I'll mostly be fishing at my cabin in MN catching northern pike and small mouth bass. Any suggestions?

It doesn't matter that much. Get something that you're comfortable with, in your price range. You get what you pay for, mostly in the form of durability. I'd say in your case a 6ft rod, open-faced spinning reel that can take 8-12lb test line. You don't need anything fancy. Go in to your local tackle shop and talk to them. They're always stoked to help people that are interested in fishing, and need the business. Only go to Dicks or a bigger store if you have to, I can guarantee the service will not be as good. I'll write more on lures later if you need it, kinda tired now.

Went out today after school in upstate NY. Lots of bugs out so time to break out the fly rod and catch some fish

...along with catching some fish, you could "catch" a fine, a citation, and loss of fishing & hunting privileges. In NY trout season opens April 1st. Please respect fishing and hunting seasons, bag limits, and other fish & game laws.

Give him the benefit of the doubt man, not sure about NY but here in PA there are plenty of special regulation artificial lure only areas that are fishable year round and even during stocking season. I'm buying my license today and going next week to get in some practice before the opener down here which is also april 1st or 2nd.

Always know the regulations, usually they will help you out. For example, the last mile my stream is open year round because it's classified as Lake Champlain (the lake it dumps into). They're usually specific about sections, i.e. below or above a certain bridge or waterfall. Lots of people don't take the time to become familiar with these types of regulations, which is their loss.

No trout for me man. Go in a spot that is like a big river that comes off my lake (canandaigua). Lots of bass and sunfish go nuts for any type of bug so it's tons of fun, and legal. Catch and release for me. My dads a DEC officer so I'd be fucked if I was illegally fishing

Caught my first fish today! Caught a 22 innch northern off of my dock! I was too busy jumping up and down in excitement to get a pic but it was amazing!

Headed to Mille Lacs for a weekend of walleye fishing. Hoping to be able to post some pics of big fish in here come monday.

I just got my first walleye today, They're pretty hard to catch in VT without a boat, so I'm really excited. It wasn't very big, but I'll get a pic up later anyway just because I think it was a really cool fish. Also, no one told me they had teeth. I lip landed it expecting it to have little teeth like perch or bass but they were huge sharp teeth. My thumb's all cut up now.

nice nice! Once you start tying streamers try common patterns in more natural colors.  I've had a ton of luck with buggers in tan/brown combinations which you can't really find anywhere and experimenting with different colors of minnow patterns can be real effective as well (I have a bright pink/white minnow pattern that works wonders).  Also look into a lot of different rubber leg patterns if you want some big, pissed off browns on yoru line

had a 26-30 in brown on the line for about all of 5 seconds yesterday until he swam straight upstream, wrapped himself around a log and snapped me clean.. it was by far the biggest brown I've hooked and the only big one to jump out of the water like he did

Ah man that's the worst. I was fly fishing with poppers for bass in my local park. As soon as my popper hit the water a huge bass took it. It was fighting really hard and dove down into the weeds, mostly because I have a smaller fly rod so I couldn't handle it rough. Paddled over to it, grabbed my line, pulled up and pop, no more line. Sucks but I think of that as a prequel to something even bigger getting hooked on my line

I enjoy fishing with my friends on cape cod and at the local lake.

Finally got some of my free time back so I've been fishing a lot in a few spots around town. 

My fav spot has a pair of nesting herons that have lived there for years.  Fishing alongside a 7 foot bird is kind of cool and he is almost always there just chilling and watching.   

Been pulling some serious fish out of it lately, which is crazy.  Never seen a bow anywhere near this big in this river.  I love fishing the spillways below dams though, you never know what is in the deep water-cut pools.  Large and smallmouths, rock bass, bluegills, brookies, bows, dace, cats etc. etc. etc. you just never know  

I'll have to start taking more pics.

Nice rainbow Matt. I haven't had a trout on the line in far too long. Headed up to the catskills this weekend for my buddy's downhill race at windham though so maybe I can hook up with a NY trout.

Lots of nice fish in that area for sure, I love that neck of the woods.  Shouldn't be too hard to get a few on the line and the mighty Esopus is fun to float down with beers anyways.  Probably going to pick up a kayak in the next week or two as well to open up a few options I have in mind as now that I have my free time back I'm in full fishing obsession mode.

Kayaks are fuckin great for fishing, lets ya sneak right into the good spots.

Oh yeah, I used to do tinker town with a huge group of friends from NYC every year.  Been a few but it was always a blast.  Can't wait for this damn bonus check to come because I've been lusting for a kayak for a hot minute and being shorebound is making me crazy.  I've got a nice rowboat but you need two people to really get it anywhere.     

In other fishing news, went to three dams yesterday after work.  Two were winners, one was a total bust and I only caught a tree.  No real picworthy fish but lots and lots of angry, aggressive bass. 

Took some panoramas of the regular spot- and does anyone know where I can host panoramas full size?  Photobucket wants to compress the whole damn thing down to one picture.  Not cool.

Anybody flyfishing in NY wanna clue me in to some flies that have been working for ya lately?? I'm headed up to the catskills this weekend and I'm taking my rod. WHAT ARE THEY BITIN ON??

You'll have to see if they are coming up to take flies from the surface or taking them underwater. It all depends on that. If they are on the surface, maybe try some Adams, but if they are underwater try and turn some rocks over and see what bugs are under them. Thats what I usually do. But do some trial and error man, all we can do.

Hit the dams again yesterday. 

In the first spot, there were a bunch of loud and obnoxious crackheads partying in the bum cave when I got there.  Ended up muscling a big red plastic newspaper stand out of the river and left almost imediately after that because crackheads are the loudest, most obnoxious littering fishermen in the world-"OH SHIT NIGGA YOU SEE THAT MOTHERFUCKIN FISH NIGGA!?!?  OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT FUCK YO, NIGGA GET DA NET!  NIGGA GET DA NET YO!" and when they got it in their bucket it was "DASWASUP MAH NIGGA, YO NIGGA WE GOIN' PRO UP IN THIS SHIT NIGGA, WE CATCHIN EERTHING UP IN HURR, DEEZ MOTHAFUCKIN FISH AIN'T SHIT YO" at the top of their lungs and they kept every fish that would bite their worm-dunking asses' bait.  I was actually getting more and more pissed as I had to listen to them howl like fucking monkeys and see them keep every .25lb fish and eventually I couldn't take it and I had to leave.  Motherfucking ghetto ass fishermen are the worst and it makes me so angry when I see people just fucking shit up down there.  No, just throw your worm can on the ground next to all your cigarette butts and empty pack, it's cool I'll get it later.  Def keep all the fish too, no need to release the ones that are too small, sustainability is overrated.  Oh, and if you could act like you're up in da club on your birthday that woud be awesome too- peace and quiet are stupid.   

In lighter news, the next spot was great.  Empty and the fish were biting.

Also, went to this spot last weekend.  Lost Pond, about a 2 mile hike up the long rail at the end of a 25 minute car ride down a dirt road in south central VT.  Didn't catch shit but a buzz, still totally worth it.  The water was glass clear and you could easily jump from these rocks safely.   

God I hate hate HATE people like that. Call me racist, but it is always the black people ruining a day of fishing. Theres nothing like having people scream and holler over a 3 inch sunfish, which they keep, to ruin a good day of fishing.



Thats where I fish in my kayak. Love that place, and its 5 minutes from my house. Peaceful when you are all alone, but not with the screamers...
