Got a quick car audio question for anyone who knows quite a bit about it. I know a bit to keep up but im no expert. I just sort of fell into this 10" clarion 1600 watt peak 800 watt RMS sub in a ported box and I'm looking for an amp for it. Guy said its running on 2 ohms. I heard its better to over power a sub than under power it, because underpowering causes distortion and blows speakers. But I also heard overpower can melt the coils or something. Sooo we tested a 600RMS on the sub quickly and my buddy who knows more than me said it was "clipping" - meaning it was pushing the sub to its max or some shizzz. So maybe a smaller amp will do. Or should I get a 800 rms or 1000rms amp and run it at like 75%
Specs on sub:
