Coming from a long time PBP fan and a huge ski movie fan in general, I was pretty disappointed. Sountrack wasn't really good at all besides a couple of segments, there was way too much urban, and there wasn't any flow to the film at all. I understand how they were trying to get back to their "banger ski porn" PBP format after Revolver's negative reviews last year, but I think they need to find a better medium.
I dunno, something about it was just off to me. I guess I'm just always expecting another EDIAS...

I was impressed. It felt a lot more like an oldschool PBP movie. They dropped most of the tiresome trends from their recent movies (segments that dragged on, vacuous voice-overs) and got back to short, sweet ski porn segments. Sammy and Dane had particularly impressive parts. I'd give the soundtrack a B+ (instead of a D from last year) - good variety, though there weren't many that fit exceptionally well... except McPhee.

The Grand Bizzare kinda pisses me off.  dont get me wrong, the skiers are sick no doubt, but i hate what poor boyz does to try and make the movie vizually appealing.  When i watched the GB it almost seemed liked it made skiing look Lady Gaga-esk.  Poor boyz is trying to get to technical with shots and they are so jammed together and fast moving it almost seems like your watching the same slow motion trick over and over from weird angles.  Dub cork here on this feature, dub cork there on that feature.  its overly complex and repetative.  even though i noticed they used way more different features this year vs. revolver or saturday which was a nice touch but the style is wack.   Someone who has never seen a ski movie would love this, but repetative, complexity fucking sucks.  from and editing view,  the high fps red camera (or whatever they used) ruined the movie because of the switching from those hd shots to the tradional camera shots is very obvious, which made the movie really visually choppy Vs the art of flight, where everything is HD, super sharp and very clean. 

Overally it sucks, yeah the skiing was super dope but the movie puts out such a sellout type image towards skiing and these riders.  You have to have a very generic taste in ski movies to like the grand bizzare.

but seriously, i watched it last night and i really liked it. it might not have been edias, but it was new and fresh. i dont get all the hate towards it. the soundtrack wasnt incredible but that might be because alot of people expect thug segments the whole way through. Lj's segment was sick, as was leigh's and danes.

people just love to hate too much.

PBP's movie was the same at it has been for the last 4 years. Dubstep ski porn with a serious vibe and the same bland camera angles and music as past years. Why don't we look to snowboarding film for influence? Burton's movie this year "Standing Sideways" was sooo good.

This is one of the better movies I have seen. I like this one more than any others because it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, I loved the sound track because it used songs people arnt used too, which is good!!! also I just liked the fact that it was skiing and none of that talking crap about flying and skiing and feeling so free, all of that is too cliche. But overall I think this is a great movie, one that I can watch over and over. At first peoples expectations threw me off and wasnt about to buy the movie, but Im glad I did.

i kinda feel... indifferent.
the segments were sick josh stack was killer and dumonts as done really well but i wasn't completely stoked the entire way through like i like to be. I think it may be because the backcountry segments were not as long/as well done as i tend to gravitate to. hard to explain, but the skiers killed it, there's no doubting that. (what up LJ!)

Overall, the flow was terrible. The music was a step in the right direction after Revolver, but I found myself getting bored while watching The Grand Bizarre. I should not be getting bored while getting drunk at my house watching ski movies in September. One other negative for me was the abundance of urban, felt like at least 50% of the movie was urban. Don't get me wrong, some of the shots and rails were very sick, but it disrupted what little flow there was and completely killed what stoke if any I actually felt. It kills me to be watching a ski movie and having the urge to turn it off due to lack of interest.

I will be watching it again this weekend, so maybe my opinions will change. I have to hand it to PBP for making such a dramatic change compared to Revolver however.

glad i only paid 10 dollars for this. i thought the movie was brutal to be honest.
seemed like the audio was kind of off? like half assed audio? especially agers segment.
usually after i buy a movie i will go back and watch parts i thought were dope and the only one i can think of right now is the one with the LCP song.

it wasn't the best ski movie ever, but the skiing was out of control. sammy took bc mini golf to an entirely new level, the urban was a good mix of creativity technicality and pure gnarlyness. the park segment was actually one of my favorite park segments in recent memory. ager was ager in all the best ways, josh stack, leigh, bobby brown, dane tudor and mike henetuck(?) all had really well rounded sick parts which was also nice to see. they did a great job of getting banger shots in ever aspect of skiing.

i have to agree on the soundtrack though. the only song i was really stoked on was black sabbath's the wizard, most of the rest was decent but not something i immediately wanted to download. and i really could have gone without the lcp song, mixin up the medicine, and that we are the rebels song. and i know most kids on here do so i try not to complain but i just can't really get into cali p

Best pbp movie in a long time. Loved the whole thing, the soundtrack and the flow.

They guys slayed, bobby, lj, sammy etc. Pretty much everybody.

Simon is a fucking beast. Did you see that crash? Holy shit

And josh stack is a nut.

"Mixin up the Medicine" sucked. Especially to have it close out a movie. Sammy's segment was also repetitive with him hitting the same BC lips and kickers that everyone else was hitting the entire movie. I feel like they could've given him a little more of a banger seg. Also, dubbing Pyramids doesnt come across as that big of a feat anymore, esp after PBP put it in their movie 2 years ago.

Cali P is over used in skiing. Especially the custom Cali P songs. Sorry, but its true. Also, they should've made Dane's segment just one, fluid segment.

Too much urban? yes. Especially for a PBP movie. They should've combined all of the urban into one or two segments.

Charley Ager's song was pretty bad and the audio sounded terrible.

I did enjoy the intro, Bobbys seg, and the park segment. That shit was banger. After that, they sorta lost me...Although I did enjoy LJ, Martini, and Stack.

They used the same backcountry booters and lips way too many times for different peoples shots. Same zones = repetitive. Show more gnarliness in AK.

Anyone who hates this movie is HYPER CRITICAL. To the kid who said there were to many complex shots, you sir are retarded. The shots held my attention instead of being long, drawn out shots that are boring.

I liked it. The music wasn't bad, alot of good segments, they just need to kinda put them in order, not a big mountain segment here, an urban there, then pow, so it's a bit more organized. And I would like to see a little more park. Oh and did anybody else get the Keystone park segment twice? I had it in the middle of the movie and right after.

this movie was sooooo good. i liked everything about it, the intro, bobbys segment, park shoot, LJs, everything. and whoever said henitiuk's segment sucked is on crack. his was way good. i like the soundtrack too. download it if you haven't, you will be impressed.

This movie was awesome, like every movie I've seen come from Poorboyz. I'm so sick of kids complaining "oh the music wasn't that good" "oh the shots didn't match" no one fucking cares. These guys work too hard and bust their asses EVERY YEAR to put out a movie for you people to enjoy and what do they get in return? 65-70% hate on some part of the film if not the whole thing. That sure is motivating to make a film the next year. Anyone who complains about the movies these guys put out needs to get the stick out of their ass. If you don't want to say something positive or motivating about the films, keep you mouths shut. /rant.

To be fair, if everyone said something good about the movies, they would never get any better.

PBP used all the hate they got for Revolver (which I actually liked) to make changes when it came time to make The Grand Bizarre, and it seems like people really appreciate those changes. If nobody had said anything last year, The Grand Bizarre would have just been another Revolver.

Well I'm seeing a lot more hate in this thread without any reasons then constructive criticism. And Im glad there was more urban, thats where a lot of skiing is going. More and more kids are doing urban nowadays and PBP played off that. The songs were all different and not one dubstep song could be found in the whole movie. The skiing was unreal, the editing had a cinema movie feel which was exciting and held your attention, and it had a good vibe...and yet, half these kids dont seem to appreciate that. Its just frustrating how so many kids nowadays dont appreciate how much work goes into the films that are made FOR THEIR ENJOYMENT.

For sure, I totally see where you're coming from.


But I can tell you that as somebody who worked on the movie for over a month (which obviously still isn't anywhere close to the amount of work grinnell or carter put in), none of the hate is discouraging whatsoever. Even the comments that just say 'I thought it sucked, the flow was weird' are helpful. the only posts that don't help whatsoever are ones that say 'i thought the movie sucked,' and leave it at that. but i actually haven't seen too many of those.

that would be Bonus material that you would find on the DVD, they put it after the credits for the digi download, which was very cool.

I thought it was the best PBP movie in years! the whole thing was awesome, banger shots, great soundtrack, very well rounded. you complainers are all a bunch of pussies

I think if you go back through the thread you will see there's actually probably more positive feedback than negative feedback. it's just that the negative is more memorable.

I really enjoyed it. Much better than Revolver. I thought the soundtrack was good with the except of Ager and Leboe's segment, but their skiing made up for it. Leigh Powis' seg was sick, as was the song.

Truthfully I found the movie very well done, and the music to only add to the experience. While it was out there it was a fresh change up and the diversity of music kept me on edge and more into the movie as a whole the whole way through. As for the riding I wasn' super satisfied with Bobby Browns opening segment, but over all I though everyone threw down (in particular LJ). As for the segment transitions and length, I thought they nailed it by keeping it concise, as opposed to Revolvers long segments of hitting the same feature or area over and over again. For me the movie really picked up at the end. I never have been a fan of Dumont, but I have to say he lays down some insane stuff, and overall is one of the most entertaining guys to watch. For the Closer Sammy was PERFECT. Segment was insane and the perfect variation between pow and urban. Overall I really enjoyed the movie, Well done PBP

Alright guys...I just re-watched it and I actually enjoy it. It definitely reminds me of Ski Porn so much, and thats not a bad thing at all. I just wish they gave Ager a better song, I think they could have given Dane one fluid seggy, and I still think there was a tad too much urban...but the movie was good overall.
I should've watched it once or twice more before giving a review.

Two things:
They should've gotten some sick heli shots of LJ's dubs on that Keystone kicker, his tricks were a little too blended in with the trees and shit, I hate when that happens.

Excuse me for the length of this post but I feel like I know why you are feeling the way you are when you watch Poor Boyz movies and to let you know you are not going crazy. I watched the Grand Bizarre and Weight, and those are the only 2 movies I have watched this year. I feel the Grand Bizarre had the best skiing out there but just like you said I did not feel it at the end, probably because Poor Boyz is more about just putting the best riding out there. They find the best guys and the use them to make great shots. As for the soundtrack, it makes sense that Poor Boyz would kinda put this more intense music that just goes with the craziness of the riding, which is not always favorable. As for Weight, I feel that the riding might not beat the Grand Bizarre, but the vibe and story it told made you feel something after the movie. Plus, the Grand Bizarre used feature we will probably never get the chance to hit, but that we see in everyday lives. For Poor Boyz it almost feels like forge in Halo, where they would move something here or there to add to the effect, which is cool, but unrealistic to the average rider. So the main point im trying to get to now is that as skiers we want to see something that we look at or hit in our lives, and to see what could be done out of that feature is more understandable to us. Whether it is kickers in Park City, backcountry in Alta, or common urban rails. Making Grand Bizarre the obvious winner of the best movie, would have no arguement to change that, but the movie that had the better vibe and made me want to ski more and repeat segments just for how it made you feel inside after watching a segment (whether it was because of the music, the teamwork, editing)... Weight was the obvious winner for that. And this is coming from a backcountry rider not an urban skier

Say what you will but I think Leigh's segment was the coolest most innovative part out, I love the mellow Cudi songs but I feel like skiing is way too energy filled for songs like ghost the soundtrack ws progressive and even if it didn't work perfectly with the skiing it was enjoyable to listen to. All the songs had vibe and I was equally pleased with that kinda blues-ish song during lj's segment and the yelawolf dipset comboplate backing up Sammy. Also why can't eheath be a cool and funny fat person. Just because you follow John ware with your camera doesn't mean you can bitch people out and use up the world's marshmallow supply.

i didnt really like it at all. the skiing in it was awsame but the soundtrack totally rueined the movie. the only parts i didnt mind were like LJs part,leighs part, and sammys segments.

i liked revolver WAY better i watched it like 20 times. i was sooo excited for the grand bizzare. i saw the trailer and i was like yes then it came out and i was like YES and then i got it and watched it PURE DISSAPOINTMENT......

I do like the movie but the soundtrack actually takes away from it. bene, agers and leboes section songs in a row is the ball buster.

I watched the first half of it a few nights a go and thought it was kind of choppy and very mediocre then I watched the whole thing yesterday and really liked it! I thought the movie flowed better than their movies in the past and really liked it.

Sounds about right. Kids complaining about urban? If I had the time I feel pretty confident I could find posts by half of em jockin 4bi9 or Stept... which are sick... and focus heavily on urban. The soundtrack was WAY better than it's been from PBP for a few seasons. It had flow, the editing was tight, shots were sick and the riding definitely pushing it... maybe not every single shot, but not every single shot in Art of Flight (as the benchmark right now) was pushing boundaries either. Soundtrack was way better than One for The Road... vibe was almost as good as Set Your Sights (...just my opinion...)... speaking of which, sick motion graphics, i thought. I gotta say it, nice work Cody.
