Ok So Im in the market for a new tripod head and I can only really budget for either a 501 or 701 from manfrotto. I have a very basic lightweight camera setup of a sony a55 and some vintage primes. Im wondering whether the 701 would be better for me as the counterbalance of the 501 seems too high given my light weight setup. What do you guys think. Why would the 501hdv be better for a lightweight setup?
I can vouch for this. that was the first head i had. i hated the legs. I think a good setup would be some 055XB legs and get the weifeng 717 head off of ebay. make sure you dont get the ball head. the weifeng its built much better then the manfrotto , arm can extend further, it is pretty tight tthough. you can spray it with something to loosen it up. but overall, you cant go wrong with that or the manfrotto 701, probably equally good, but the weifeng is much cheaper!
