Okay bros I need some serious input

I know a lot of people on here have dealt with, or have dealt with people who have dealt with, opiate addictions, and i need some knowledgeable answers..

i have a friend who had a big problem with opiates and while he's still a really good friend, he got that junkie side to him like people sometimes do on the idiot pills etc and he's become really dishonest about money etc and never paid for anything, presumable because all his money was going to his drugs

anyway, he more or less kicked it at rehab at least for a short period, and has been on suboxone since. however, recently we've gotten really fed up with his junkie personality showing itself sometimes and like always he NEVER has any money/never pays for anything, yet somehow doesnt have any money in his checking and said he hasnt been putting it in savings

yesterday and the day before he was nowhere to be found, and today he finally texted us saying sorry but ive been all sick cause ive decided to drop the suboxones cold turkey cause theyve been messing with me and i dont like how they make me feel and act

now he's not the most trustworthy guy, and my friends and i already suspect that he is actually back on OCs or something, real drugs.

so can anyone tell me: do you go through a noteworthy withdrawal if you drop suboxone like that? or is it more likely he's not telling the whole truth and he actually is back on real shit?

thanks a lot for good answers bros, i need this question answered and i know some of you know how this shit goes. appreciate it

I would say he's back on some sort of drug. But that's just my opinion from what I read. Confront him as a friend and just ask, it's for his own good.

well suboxone is def a drug and i think you get (smaller) withdrawals from it, but it's impossible to tell for me.. i need someone who knows these drugs well

and yeah, usually id go straight up with him but that doesnt work with this guy. just doesnt, period. the only times ive cracked him by being straight up aggressive, it worked, but was a biiig scene and isnt likely to happen again

he may always be like that. i know of a few people that were addicted to pretty much all pills (oxy, roxys, opanas, vikes...anything they could find basically) and even after kicking it they just aren't the same person. sucks but taking that many pills for extended periods will fuck a person up permanently.

good luck, people actually become addicted to the subs they are prescribed so it is possible. however, it sounds like he's probably back on them. i only know of one person who's stayed off pills after addictions. the rest, no matter how many times they go to rehab, jail etc. are right back on them as soon as they can be.

tough addiction to beat...

speaking from experience, opiates are almost impossible to get off of. just be there as best you can for him, and good luck.

yep...unfortunately i think youre right. even when he definitely was clean, he still had that junkie side to him. i fucking hate it dude, i really hate it.

anyway, the silver lining of that, i guess, is that it means he's not necessarily on the real stuff right now

yeah, it seems pretty much like that. just too addictive and easy..

believe me im there for him, but it's really hard to keep you patience when someone youre bending over backward for (read: spending hundreds and hundreds for because they never have money) continues to take advantage of you any chance he can get cause he cant stop acting like a fucking junkie. drives me up a wall

Does he appreciate your friendship? Sometimes it takes losing something great for people to change. I'm not saying cut all ties. It just sucks that it has to get to that point which it usually does... My experienced advice is to be there for him always but only if he is honest with u. Tell him u don't care if he's doing ocs again just let him know that u can't be there for him if he isn't honest with u. Make sure he knows u will never be disappointed with him as long as he's honest. Friendship is something he needs but without complete transparency in regards to his problem u can't help.

It's hard to get a legit answer from these forums infested with kids who know nothing of addiction.

I've actually come out and beat a horrible oxycontin 80 addiction. and let me tell you....yes!...suboxone withdrawals can and will be just as severe as coming off the substance your abusing itself.

I have a lot of knowledge on the topic. I'd shoot me a pm. It's a hard road and no one can make you want to change your life...you honestly (the addict) have to want it for yourself or you'll be right back to snorting/shooting/smoking in no time.

Addiction is very serious and very sad all in one. Leme know man I'd be glad to help.

Exactly dude, like I said he's hard to get in a straight conversation but I had a little ultimatum this spring with him when i caught him being a sketchball with my stuff and didnt give in for comfort's sake like his blowups usually cause me to do. I'm a hard guy to deal with when i reach the end of my patience and he definitely admitted it as well as he could that i was right and im far too good and understanding to him for him to be lying so much to me, and it's definitely, definitely cut down the sketchiness and lying a ton.

but the thing is, he does value my friendship and he is a really, really good guy and proves it sometimes, but it's like he actually has a split personality, there's normal, awesome, smart, cool Steve* (fake name), but then there also still is junkie steve and he shows his face sometimes. he's like fucking gollum

we'll see how he is tonight and see how i should handle the situation

thanks for the really good answers guys. I knew that in a serious thread like this people would cut the normal bullshit for a second and really offer good responses. much appreciated

yeah, ive known a lot of people into the shit and so I have some knowledge and can tell when theyre high etc most of the time but ive made it really clear to steve* that i can't truly imagine what he's going through, but believe me when i say ive got the guy's back and prove it all the time. he knows i only want the best for him and he knows when we crack down on him it's cause we love him but like i said the split in his personality makes that not as final as it may seem

i will definitely hit you up after i see what the situation is like tonight.. but in the mean time, to give me a better knowledge base to judge the situation, can you give me a run down on prices? i know these pills are expensive as fuck.. but id like to have a good handle on the financial side of things in case it becomes useful in my perception of the situation

As a former drug and alcohol addiction counselor, I have a little insight into this. I am not going to comment on whether or not he may be back to using opiates (too many different factors that I do not have knowledge of), but I will comment on what you can do.

Number 1: Just be brutally honest with him. I know you said you have done this and at times it doesn't seem to work, but you have to let him know how you are feeling about the situation.

Number 2: Stop paying for things for him. If he in fact has a legit source of income there is no reason he can't take care of himself and if he is back to using, you are only making it easier for him.

Number 3: Don't let his addiction become your problem. This may sound harsh, but all you can do is tell him how/where to get help, nothing more. You can't babysit him or take care of him for the rest of your life. You will only end up hating him for it. Be there as an emotional support if you are comfortable with that and tell him to keep getting the help that he needs. Opiate addictions are a horrible, nasty disease, but they can be overcome.

Suboxone, methadone and opiates are really hard habits to kick. One of my best friends was hooked on heroin and OCs and finally kicked them with the help of suboxone and methadone, it took him months to finally get off them and said the methadone withdrawals were the worst he has ever experienced. For 14 days he went through hell with the withdrawals, I have never seen him in such a bad state. For those of you who don't know suboxone and methadone are very similar synthetic opiates so I would assume that the withdrawals are fairly similar.

With that being said he could be back into harder drugs, but who knows. Only time will tell. My advice is to be a good friend and be there for him.

to the comments given already.  I applaud all of you.

most of these addiction threads turn into kids talking shit when really they have no idea about the whole ordeal itself.

as far as prices go to the op...man it's different everywhere you go.

A standard from where I'm from...and this changes constantly,

Hydrocodone 10's - 5bux a pop

roxi 30's(oxycodone) - 20-25 a pop

and what used to be around and brought me down harder and faster then anything I could ever imagine.

Oxy 80's - started at 50 a pop...went up to a steep 120+ when the last ones were around. (which I doubt your friend is doing these as they are mere impossible to find anymore unless you know wtf your doing.)

Opiates are a disgusting way to get high. Hell they are fun and that's why a huge percentage of our population does them...but they fall victim to a horrible cycle before they can even see it coming. Cheers.

I've done a lot of post work since my addiction by volunteering for children's impatients/ service work/ etc. and it is gnarly to see how young of age some of these kids go in with really bad heroin/oxy addictions.

I was addicted to OC for 2 years, and have been clean for the last year. I was on suboxone for about 6 mo. I'm not going to write a bunch on the thread but feel free to pm.
