So my birthday was last week and I got a new car, I got my license today and with the birthday money I got I plan on buying new speakers for my car which will cost me about 100 dollars since mine dont work. I will have 100- 250 dollars left over. So I am wondering what my next peice of equipment I should buy is. I have a t2i with kit lense and a super cheap tripod from Walmart. My question to you is, should my next purchase be a Manfrotto setup, a canon 50mm 1.8, sell my kit lense and save up a little for a tamaron 17-50 or buy a glidecam? Thanks +k for helpfull answers.
Id say, 80-90 pecent video the rest photo, it would be mostly towards the ski season up at the mountain, hopefully by then though i will have more equipment.
True, but using a kit lens on a Manfrotto will produce better results than going handheld with a fast 50mm and falling victim to the trite OMG SHALLOW DOF CLOSE UP look. That is, unless he's artistically experienced, which isn't the case.
Hey now, check my edits. But yeah I know, that is why I am debating, for the moment being I cant bust 2000 on a Sacthler tripod. So right now I am in between a pentax 50mm or a cheap manfrotto setup.
No offense at all! There's nothing wrong with being new to something.
I believe stabilization is the most important part of your rig. Even a cheap Manfrotto tripod can do wonders for your footage. What's a fast 50mm going to do? Give you the same image with better image quality. Not to say that nice glass isn't important (it's extremely important), but stabilization should be the first priority, im my opinion.
Besides, both a tripod and a good 50mm are very cheap. For $300 you could get a Pentax 50mm 1.4 and a Manfrotto 501 head and sticks. Get two birds stoned at once.
Yeah thank you that is what I was thinking, just when I made this post I wasn't sure and I am still not if the amount of money will cover both of these items. Also I could not decide between the two becauae, I agree stabilization is the most important, but the filming I will be doing between now and this winter I do not think it wil be entirely neccesary for a tripod. So I was just asking what M&A thought. But I will see if I can wing an extra 200 and get both, thank you. Got any suggestions for a pair of legs to go with the 501 head and a link to the head?
Keep in mind that a 50mm on a crop sensor will be pretty jittery when hand-held, and almost unusable for skiing without any sort of stabilization.
Assuming you have the Pentax mount version, you need a K to EOS adapter. You can find nice ones on ebay for under $20. Just make sure it's metal and don't pay for that stupid focus confirm isht.
Yeah, I understand that, hopefully by this season my film equipment will be more diverse. If not it will mostly be tripod shots anyway, any follow cams would most likely not be used with the 50mm. I just want to extend my lens collection for more options while filming.
My first lens was the Pentax 50mm 1.4. After using it one day my initial thought was "I need a tripod." So I bought a Manfrotto.
Later on I got a 70-200. After my first day of shooting, I realized the footage was unusable due to my tripod. I eventually bought a Sachtler, after a YEAR of owning a 70-200 and having it sit around collecting dust because my stabilization was lacking.
Moral of the story: it doesn't matter what camera setup you have. Without proper stabilization, it will look bad.
Sounds like you know what to get, tripod and a 50mm with your kit lens will be a good start. this is why i always say you need 1500+ for a decent dslr setup.
Yeah I agree when I got my camera though I new I would have money later. So I have been looking around B and H and I can't find a 501 manfrotto set for 200 dollars, so does anyone have a link to were I coud get one? One more thing, which pentax 50mm should I get with what adapter, thank you.
Yeah it was Bogen I believe I think they have some really sturdy legs, but with that and a 501 head it will still be like 250 since the heads are like 175 dollars.
