summer break down under

yea, i already knew that, i wasn't asking when their summer was, i was asking when they get their break off school... is it in their summer? like, do they go to school in july/august and get like jan/feb off?

We get 3 weeks off um in about a months time. That is comparable to your xmas break. Our University (or college in your language) breaks for summer mid november, and comes back feburary/march. So we get 3 months off.

However I spent my summer break in the states at Tahoe, and I will be spending my next summer break at mammoth.
5 winters in a row... yum :)

Yes, New Zealand school summer holidays are Dec, Jan and part of Feb. University hols are from mid November until late Feb. There are school holidays and University holidays at the beginning of July but they are never longer than 3 weeks I don't think, our winter has already started, the hills are starting to open, yeah, it's gonna be sick as. And yeah, our toilets flush opposite to yours.

what do you mean our toilets flush opposite? in the states and canada your toilets have heaps and heaps of water and (like five litres) and you flush it all with each flush. in oz our toilets hold about 3/4 of a litre and it all goes down at once, not in a whirlpool thing like it does up there

ok let's see if i can put this toilet flushing topic to rest.....try to stay with me here.

here is the theory,

the direction of water in a toilet is the result of something called the coriolis force. this is a result of the rotation of the earth. to a person standing at the north pole the earth is spinning counter-clockwise. now, for you science buffs we all know that nature likes to equalize everything. if a low pressure exists nature wants to fill it. when you flush the toilet it creates a low pressure in the bowl. the water proceeds to try to fill it end in turn empties. as the water rushes towards the center of the bowl the rotation of the earth causes the outside water to drag or appear to slow down. this makes the water flow counter-clockwise. this the same phenomena that causes hurricanes and tornadoes to do the same thing. (clockwise about a high, counter-clockwise about a low)

so this being said......what do you think would happen to a persons toilet at the south pole? from that view point the earth would be spinning clockwise and everything would be reversed...hence the clockwise rotation of the toilet water.

in theory a persons toilet at the equator would flow straight into the middle with no spinning.


now this is all in theory......

in actuality you would need a toilet about 200 kilometers across to actually see this happen.

the rotation of water in toilets is strictly the result of the manufacturers jets in the bowl and which way they are pointing. having the water spin reduces the amount of splashing.

But to keep things simple.
When I was in the states, I didn't see one toilet that was the same in design as the toilets we have here.
And vise versa.

You guys have the little jet thing at the bottom pointing towards the back of the toilet which pushes the shit out.
We just have water flowing from the top of the bowl. Plus the actual water in the bowl, as said above, isn't more than a litre or so. You guys get like 4 or 5 litres into the bowl. It's madd.
