A quick word on blocking ads

I've seen some great edits on here ( and some not so great ) and certainly going to take some video this year. Just curious if there is a main software that is good for editing go pro footage or if it is more just personal preference. Thanks for shedding any light on this, and apologies if this shoud be in "gear talk" I wasn't sure.
