im not sure about anything in life, its weird like music and weed and skiing and friends is everything that i love in my life but there is realistically no way any of those things are gonna get me anywhere. throughout life you find things that you love and you want to follow but there are so many different things you have to do to survive so you cant follow any of those passions. i dont want to spend my whole life in some fucking office job where i do the same thing over and over and over again. from when you are first born you are never free. you will go through your whole life being told what to do and following what other ppl do. for the first 18 years of your life you are completely under the control of you parents and your peers, they spend there days just telling you how to live and they try to teach you what they know. i would almost call it brain washing. dont get me wrong i fucking love life but i have a feeling that pretty soon my whole life is gonna go to shit because im not gonna no what to do. after i graduate i dont want to got to uni but my brother did and my parents would be so disappointed. you see thats what i mean i am so lost in what to do because of what my parents wtll think. and if i didn't go to uni then i would feel like these last few years in school were a complete waste of time. if i didnt got to school after high school then what would i do, probs move up to a mountain and ski bum the rest of my life. but you can only do that for so long. what happens when im to old to ski and i have no moey because i never got a legit job. thinking of the future is a complete mind fuck and now im just really confused

go to school in/near a ski town. shred 3-4 days a week, manage your schedule to have class the other 3. study when you can. graduate, blow off life and go adventuring, skiing, whatever, come back to the real world when youre ready. problem solved. thats what pretty much everyone in a ski town set out to do, and then found out theyd rather just stay there and find a way to make it work and still have fun everyday.

Its funny how we have some of the best living conditions in the world but american's are probably some of the most unhappy people. I'm not hating, I 100% relate to you in every way. I bet if we were being chased by tigers through the jungle we wouldn't have time to be so unhappy.

I think we often just forget how meaningful it is just be be alive.

Honesely its not that bad. I went to college right out of high school and saved up some money so when i graduated i moved to colorado and skied eavery day for 6 months. Now im down in Denver and i just got a great job. You will figure it out. Life is all about balance.

Dude i am 37 and still dont know what the fuck its all about.

The one piece of advice i will give you is this : Dont do anything just for the money, do a job you will love getting up in the morning for and that gives you satisfaction. If you need to go to Uni to do this then so be it but it is not the be all and end all.

I am a senior project manager in a huge UK based firm and i earn good money. My best friend looks after dogs at the local pound and does ski lessons on the side. He earns nothing like what i do but is happy all the fucking time and would not swap his life for anyones.

Being wealthy opens doors and allows you to do things but you are at work for 75% of your life so make sure you enjoy it.

I beg to differ.
Go to a university (if that's what you want to do, and I highly recommend it-you can try new things meet new people etc and give yourself the opportunity to find something that you are passionate about and can pursue career-wise) that's relatively near a mountain and you can definitely ski 3-4 times a week in winter. As long as you keep up with your school work then there is no reason why you can't work hard and play hard. Life's too short not to have some fun, but balance is key. I skied a lot and made it to vet school, and I know lots of skiers/snowboarders who were successful in school of all types majors (premed, engineers, business, etc. I would say the majority of them are doing great upon graduation and have jobs that they enjoy or are in grad/med school and still get to the mountain a lot even now).
Look at Dr. Rob Gaffney. He's a psychiatrist who still shreds.
I guess I'm saying that there is no reason, if you are motivated enough, to aim high and find a good career that you enjoy and still get to ski :)
But hey, I also know people who are skibumming and never went to college and love it too. I think college just opens up a lot more doors for opportunities job-wise, and gives you those 4 years to find out what you really want to do.

Nice story..complaining from a high school stoner who is lost in life...I have an idea. How about stop smoking weed and figure your shit out. Go to college you will realize skiing isnt everything. Your friends will eventually do their own thing you can still be friends with them. If anyhting, later in life they will help you out. If all you love in life is weed, skiing, and chilling. You have some bigger problems. Get a job and see what the real world is about.
