Sometimes I just need to be immature and vent, and I thought some on NS might relate...
I am so sick of group projects in school. Apparently all online classes at WSU require all assignments to be completed in groups. This is beyond frustrating. I like to have control over my own success, so I end up doing way more than all of the other members of my group. I hate having to be polite about everything also. Whenever I'm anything but 100% polite, people get all butt hurt. For example-- our group was going to turn in something that didn't adhere to the assignment prompt at all, so I made a post stating that I thought we should pay more attention to what the instructor is looking for. Everyone jumped all over my shit, so I backed off, but now I know we're not going to get a very good grade on the assignment. I just think there are students at all different levels in college, so you shouldn't be forced to work with someone who isn't on the same level as you. I'm sure some people in the groups think that I'm the drag-- whatever, fair enough; they shouldn't have to rely on me either.
Also, doesn't this prevent the natural selection from taking place? In any given group there might be 3-4 students who wouldn't pass-- or would realize that maybe they're studying in the wrong field. But instead they get A's because other people in the group carry them. I understand that in having groups, especially in business courses, it allows leaders to emerge-- the way they would in an actual business-- and the end result may be that in each group, one person may emerge as a leader, and work extra hard to ensure their group succeeds, and so the school has accomplished their end goal in producing 5-6 successful leaders per class. It still doesn't seem fair though.
In my marketing class we have to pick a company for the semester, and ALL of our assignments will be based on this company. I wanted to pick a fun company with cool marketing, so I suggested that we do K2. The requirement of the assignment is that it has to be local.
The other members said they wanted to do: Talking Rain, Burgerville, or Papa Murphy's. Talking Rain was popular in the 90's but who even drinks that stuff anymore? I've never heard of burgerville. Papa Murphy's? I don't even eat pizza-- I don't eat any fast food.
If you were looking for a job in marketing, and someone told you, I'll give you a job for whatever company you want-- would you choose sparkling water, burgers, or pizza?
So they ended up choosing Papa Murphy's. Lame. I just like to get the most out of my classes, and now I have to spend the semester doing boring ass research on fast food pizza restaurants.
