yes, you did imply both of those things.
you mentioned how any kid would get stoked on getting gifts. it seems a little silly to me how people (not necessarily you) can bash on Christianity and then follow the traditions and rituals without the beliefs, and that's "normal."
you also quoted yourself saying "so if that's your goal yes you're missing out" which does imply that you are happier than i am because you don't have to follow such a lifestyle.
did you just quote the fast and the furious?
i know it matters how you live your life. but the whole point of Matthew* 5:16 is that you follow such a path because of your relationship with God, not because some list of rules tells you to.
i wasn't addressing you as not being open minded. i'm saying that to fully grasp what Christianity has to offer, in the richest sense, you have to be in the right place mentally and emotionally.
i hated going to church until last year. i didn't go at all from ages 13-18. but the one i started going to last year has no religious agenda, in fact it often discusses how wrong political agenda in churches can be.
just know that i'm not some cookie cutter Christian that was raised in a church and hit with a ruler every time i looked at a girl.
i could easily be making the same argument you and technopotomus are right now, you both have great reasoning. but the same way he was drawn away from religion, i was too, but i was drawn back and my opinions were influenced by recent positive experiences rather than negative ones.
i got lucky.
