Petition to release ski movies on digital release early

Ski movies these days are waiting way to long to release their content online, leaving faithful customers extremely unsatisfied. This petition is to show ski companies they are disappointing their customers and missing out on $$$ while the hype is still high. They are also forcing consumers who depend on online content, to obtain content through torrents, because paid digital downloads/itunes is not available!. Show some support!


btw. level 1 said on their facebook that they are considering moving up thier halloween itunes release date a few weeks. lets make it happen!!!

i still dont get why you will pay 50 bucks for a digi copy but wont order a dvd for 30? did you already address this?

You guys are missing a point here. So what if the movie is done, have some respect and don't steal it. Be patient. It's Not the end of the world if a movie isnt out yet. How would you feel if you spent a whole season working your ass off to make people happy, and only have some impaitient kids steal it

well they should release it because their customers are demanding it....the fact itunes takes a large cut isn't the customer's problem.

I think OP is making the point that DVDs are an antiquated technology. Although they have a higher profit margin for the producers, the industry should be allowed to evolve to better serve the customer.

also, even though digital downloads have some disadvantages (iTunes being strict and taking a large cut) there are also huge disadvantages of hardcopy dvds.

- expensive packaging
- cost of hardcopy dvds
- shipping/duties/taxes
- dvd orders are often backed up - level 1....
- shipping a dvd can take many days/weeks
- consumers do not receive instant gratification from ordering a dvd

you are so fucking spoiled, get the fuck over yourself. The ski movies will come out, youre acting like you have a right to watch the movies regardless of what the ski company wants. If a ski company wants to ship their dvd in october/put their movie online in october, its their fucking choice, not yours. I dont really know why you get so riled up, but i suggest you calm down. you have every right to disagree with my opinion , but instead of just calling me names and complaining about me. why dont you actually contribute to the discussion?

I am in a particular situation where the only way I can access ski movies is by using my computer. I know that you arent in that situation, but try to step into my shoes and realize that it may be pretty frustrating. I am just trying to raise awareness with ski movie producers and people who may have some clout within the industry.

Unlike you, there are actually many people who agree with what I am saying, and who are in a similar situation. Why is it so wrong to try and fight for what I personally think is the future of the ski movie industry? Dont I have a right to do that?

also, maybe I do overestimate how much it would cost to produce, ship, package and distribute DVDs. but i can promise you its still more expensive then digital...

Yes but there is a reason a dvd is 30 bucks and a digital copy is 10 bucks, no one is going to pay more than 10 bucks (except you) for a digital download. And i like digital downloads, it is the future(5-10 years) its sick to have the movie in 720p HD without having to buy expensive bluray shit. But, you're acting like a spoiled brat. The ski movie makers don't have to do what you want them to do, they are going to do what they want to do. Its like telling someone who mad an edit of a pro and was going to wait a week to put it online and you're flipping out because its not fair and you want to see it and for some reason deserve it?

And please, drop the ski bum bullshit. Im sure you could have a movie shipped to a friends house and pick it up. If you're using a computer, you're using internet and unless you're at the public library for 8 hours a day, im sure you're at someones house. better yet, get a fucking PO box if its really that big of a fucking deal.


Bottom line, this thread is stupid, you're complaining about shit that you have no right to complain about. Level 1 wants to put their movie out on oct 31? word, thats their choice, not yours. you are not entitled to bitch and moan because they aren't doing what you want.

I think the people that are agreeing with you are agreeing with something else, they'd just like more digital downloads. You're still being inpatient about it, an you just want to torrent it because you can't wait yet. I get it that you have no shipping address, just wait for the digi download, it's not that long. There are plenty of other amazing ski films that have been produced and released right now that you can watch

This kid sucks. But this thread discussion brings up good points.

I would only be able to buy one $30 movie if I bought a DVD. But because of digital releases I can now get 3. (poor college kids are not going spend $100 on ski movies).

also I have no idea why weight and stept productions never had an early digital release also. After all the hype being thrown around and how good their DVD sales went with the early DVD release, they would have made a killing on an early digital release just a couple weeks after the DVD. I am in no means an expert but, it makes sense.

One thing I like about buying the DVD is that you can usually get a package.
I've gotten the Weight + T-Shirt package for under $30, along with the After Dark + T-Shirt package.

I'm sorry, I just don't see a price conflict. They have great deals. The past couple seasons, MSP has been running their movie + a Dakine pack for $60? It's not expensive. Just manage your money.

And before you think I have people buy me shit, nope. I am in college, working 8 hours a week, and not living at home. I can still find the funds to support our film industry

buddy , im not trying to "bitch or moan", and to be honest I dont really think I am acting spoiled.
My argument is that:

- digital is cheaper and easier to distribute
- digital offers a much larger demographic
- digital is of higher quality
- digital does not require any shipping, handling or duties

- and as far as I am concerned both the DVD and iTunes releases should be priced so that they generate the same amount of profit for the organization. and i guarantee you , this ski community would have absolutely no problem with that

So actually, the thread is not pointless, the point of the thread is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of digital, and to create a movement in the ski community that supports digital release. And besides a few very negative people, I have actually been really happy with a lot of the support I have gotten from poorboyz, TGR, full tilt and LINE Skis.

The way I framed the discussion may have been slightly abrasive or offensive and im sorry if you took it the wrong way .

i have watched shoot the moon, retrospect and art of flight too many times already, i want to see some skiing. please just put some movies up for digital download. i dont want to wait till october 31st. if snowboard movie makers can do it why cant ski movie makers?

so i read the first page and by the end i was getting stressed. what i took away from my readings were this.

OP - wants companies to put out digi downloads early so he can save a few bucks and get rid of his blue balls.

OP also claims that he is a ski bum and lives out of a van and does not have an address where the hard copy could be sent too. even though you can go to your local post office and get a box.

What I'm failing to understand here and please correct me if i missed something crucial on the 2nd page is. Even if although very unlikely companies started putting out there movies online before the hard copys came out. how is this asshole downloading it if hes living out a van? He doesnt even have an address but he has internet in his car? How did you direct the cable company to your "place of residence?"

Im just confused thats all... oh and no i will not be signing your petition and the only reason i may be coming off as a douche is because you actually torrent ski films...who does that?

admittedly, I could get a PO box in my local community (remote near-north Ontario), but I have been moving around and I wasnt sure when the movies would ship and where I would be. I do alot of travelling and couch surfing, so it is simply impractical for me to get a dvd mailed to me. and yes my friends, family and my cell phone gets internet.

Hahaha eheath raging so hard fucking love it, getting trolled hard. But seriously I personally would have no problem paying like 20 bucks for the digital copy of a movie, only reason why I even buy dvd's now is to get a t-shirt with it, otherwise i would just wait till it goes online.

I think a fair compromise which I really can't see any problem with is release the movie for digital release on iTunes at the same cost as the dvd, and then a month or 2 later just lower the price. That way anyone who wants it early gets it and pays for it, and you still attract the people who lowball for it later.

to stop the torrenting people just need to create fake torrents which have a short clip where on screen it says " your a fucking dbag, go buy the movie" and if there is enough, people will give up and go buy it if they really want. also some IP logging program in the torrent for extra effect. i can see where the op is coming from in terms of digital release to dvd. in a perfect world both would be on the same day at the same price and same profit to the company but its something you have to deal with that somebody might see the film before you and you might get impatient to watch it.
