Petition to release ski movies on digital release early

Ski movies these days are waiting way to long to release their content online, leaving faithful customers extremely unsatisfied. This petition is to show ski companies they are disappointing their customers and missing out on $$$ while the hype is still high. They are also forcing consumers who depend on online content, to obtain content through torrents, because paid digital downloads/itunes is not available!. Show some support!


btw. level 1 said on their facebook that they are considering moving up thier halloween itunes release date a few weeks. lets make it happen!!!

You are not being forced to obtain content with torrents jesus christ, if you are such a "faithful customer" just buy the dvd. They make significantly more money off the dvd so customers who buy it are rewarded by getting to see it first.

if it is true they make more money off the dvds, then they are simply charging too much more dvds/not enough for digital content. also , not everyone has the opportunity to buy hard copy dvds.

So, I paid for the movie back in July, money that was most likely used to finish the process of making the movie...but you should see it before me cause you're gonna buy it on itunes...yeah, that makes sense.

hey buddy . theres nothing wrong with supporting the ski companies by pre ordering, in fact , i thank you for doing that. i just think that they are stupid by cutting off a significant share of the market and make them wait another 5 weeks. I too WANT to support the ski companies, but unfortunately i dont have the opportunity to order a dvd.

and as shitty as this may sound. once the torrents come out in the next week or 2 , im not gonna just sit around waiting for the itunes version to come out. i am going to download the movies that i am DYING to see. I have no problem supporting the ski companies and giving them the cash they deserve, they just need to give me the opportunity to do so.

They're not cutting off a share, they added that to include more people. First of all, I don't know where your getting 5 weeks from, cause Weight and Grand Bizarre are the only DVDs shipping right now, so the only people who have seen these movies are the people who went to the premires/if3. Also, you have to take into account, when a movie is added to the itunes store it has to be processed and accepted by Apple, which can take weeks to happen since they get hundreds and hundreds of applications a day between apps, music, tv shows, and movies (and something like a feature film gets priority because apple wants it on itunes the day the dvd is available). So, if you plan on getting the movie on itunes, you need to understand that you're going to have to be patient and wait until it gets release, which will be after the DVDs are shipped (and no, they can't submit it to itunes before they get the DVDs because there's no way of knowing how long it will take for apple to approve it, and if they're DVDs get backed up, then the itunes release could happen first, which will upset all the people who paid for the DVD over the summer).

to all the people who think im a troll or think im just trying to get shit for free - you are dead wrong, i would pay 50$ for a digital copy of pbp or level 1 right now i just dont have the opportunity, i have bought movies from those guys for the last 8 years and i have given each company hundreds of dollars easily.

and just because apple needs to process the movie, that is absolutely no reason for it to come out so late. they could have sent apple the movie weeks ago, and had it available already.


Why not put it on iTunes right away, and charge whatever price makes them the same amount of income as the DVDs? why not have an opportunity to buy the movie right from the level 1 site!?! why not have the opportunity to pre - order the digital release in the summer and get bonus content??

Personally, im not trying to stir up a bunch of hate and piss you guys off, i just think they need to rethink thier movie release strategy to maximize audience satisfaction and raise money to produce future movies.

Back in the day, we'd be lucky if we got to see a trailer by the end of the summer and if we got a ski movie by october we were stoked. Stop being so fucking spoiled, if a movie wants to lose profits and fuck over their dvd sales, they'd put it up on itunes in august. There is a reason digi downloads don't come out for awhile and its so you kids buy the dvds.

I am what you might describe as a ski bum. I do not live in a house with an address, i stay with ski-bum friends, out of a van, with random family, camping in the bush .. ect.

btw - on a side note, does anyone know when after dark/ poor boyz will hit ski shops? i may be able to drive down to one someday.

You are acting extremely spoiled because you aren't getting what you want right away. And since you aren't getting what you want right away, you're just going to steal it instead.

Grow up. The world doesn't resolve around a whole bunch of 12 year olds that demand ski content in summer. You need to learn to be patient. Companies have release plans, and they are most likely going to stick to it.

I've pre-ordered After Dark, and Weight. I got Weight a couple weeks ago, and it was well worth the wait. I'm so stoked for After Dark to come out, but; I might go see it at the movie premiere first, it's just funner that way.

im staying just outside of Temagami, Ontario for the summer. Temagami is a town about an hours drive north of north bay ontario. i am considering driving an hour just to pick up the movie. i am staying with my uncle here right now but in a few weeks i will be heading west to the mountains to find work and ski for the winter.

Then they need to fire their marketing and sales teams. It has been shown over and over again that electronic (and even free) copies of x form of media do not affect hard copy sales. Furthermore, it has been shown that electronic copies often lead to greater hard copy sales. If someone has evidence otherwise, I'll eat my words.

But you have a laptop to download it? Just fucking wait i remember i always used to get my movies at a local shop. I would go in once a week trying to find a new movie and they would slowly start coming in mid october

ya , i have gone into my local shop countless times looking for movies too. the point is that its 2011, and digital release is the future - like it or not. this thread is about supporting a movement for a better way of distributing content. in which we wont have to wait for dvds to come in the mail and will make the ski productions companies even more $$$.

Yes, it is as shitty as it sounds. If you're "DYING" to see it, go to a premiere, chances are there's one nearby.

If not, have patience, because those movie producers & athletes, who setup meticulous shots sure did as that threw themselves down stairsets repeatedly to nail that urban segment that you're just "dying" to see.

actually, im not trying to troll, upset or offend anyone. i am just trying to discuss the issue of ski movie producers postponing the digital release of thier movies. i personally believe they should put a much stronger effort into releasing content online, and as a result they will receive more revenues and have a much more satisfied audience.

booyah! Stoked to grab this flick digitally. This is a case where—no offense—I wouldn't spring for the TGR flick (at around $30 for a movie I'm likely to watch twicish) any other way than for cheap and online. Solid move dropping it so early on iTunes, thanks!

I also found myself impulsively buying shred flicks at the end of last year after having played out the handful of dvds I had picked up.

I think, much like the situation that persists in the music industry, there is still a market for both formats, while digital/instant content is eclipsing hardcopy sales, there are still people who collect records, and like cd inserts, and there are still people that like going to the mailbox and finding a package, hand addressed, and usually stuffed with some solid freebies.

The real point to this thread is that this guy is pumped on this year's crop of flicks, and is getting a little impatient. I'm with him in that respect, and I think a lot of others are too. Hey...it's better than people not giving a shit either way, I guess. We've all just been so damn spoiled by all the free, online releases, and the webisodes, and the edits that we want that shit when we want it, haha

Even if movies would come out in months, torrent would be absolutly idiot. You think waiting them movies is a pain in the ass?

Try producing a movie with a too short due date, managing the sponsors, the DVD production, the premieres and attending school / work in between, and then seeing someone saying what you just said. This is a pain in the ass.

i realize there is a ton of pressure on you guys, and every year i am AMAZED by the results of your hard work. however, it just seems to me like sometimes ski companies will prolong providing online content way to long and really start to aggravate the consumers. I created the thread to start a lively discussion on the reasons WHY it takes so long for some ski movies to come out online, and to encourage early release.

not really, he has valid points. EVERYTHING is moving to digital downloads/streaming or blu rays(and I do not want to pay $30 for a ski movie, or any movie for that fact). DVD's won't be around much longer. it is flat out stupid for companies to not offer digital downloads at the same time as the dvd. I don't know about you, but i watch 90% of my movies on my computer, or stream them to my xbox. having stacks of DVD's around wastes space and is annoying having to put it in and wait for it to load when alternatively I can just have the file on my computer and have it a quick keyboard stroke away. not to mention, when I get a dvd/movie(be it buy it or barrow from someone), I don't even watch it, I rip the file and toss it on my external, I can't even name the last time I watched a movie off a dvd.

Plus, direct digital downloads get rid of dvd production costs, shipping cost, and time between order and delivery.

You are the dumb one for not realizing this

Hey Balto, let me clarify something here-

My point was that downloading and "hacking" movies is stupid, wrong, call it what you want. I am aware that digit is taking over, so does every other film maker. The point is, wether its digital, dvd, 8mm film, i dont give a shit, you just don't download free shit over the internet, it is whacko. I don't care if you rip off the content of your friends DVD, doesnt mean its the right thing to do.

And for your information, selling online might be a bit more complicated than you think. When you sell on itunes, its a bit harder for little snitches (wont name anyone) to share the content they bought. But to sell your movie on itunes, there are strict conditions you must fit in (which most, not to say all, AM companies do not fit in). ESK media, per exemple, has no interest in selling its content in a digit format before selling the DVD's, knowing lots of kid will share it between each other and most of you wont buy it.

I defiantly get that you guys take downloading/hacking/torrenting ski movies seriously, and i respect that. The only time I have actually ever done that was a torrent of eye trip last september, long before the release on iTunes. I made sure not to seed my copy of the movie and when eye trip came out on iTunes, i bought it immediately. The fact is, i am kind of obsessed with skiing , and I just couldn't wait any longer for the iTunes release.

Also, I understand how iTunes can be pretty strict, but there are many other online services that offer secure downloads that make content very difficult to share via torrent ect. Furthermore, do you really think that its impossible to take one of your dvds and share that all over the web?? actually its incredibly simple. Kids that want to get your movie for free WILL get it for free. It sounds shitty , and believe it or not it won't be ME who does it, but I can promise you that someone will post it online.

With all respect, I believe digital IS the future. and I really think that ski movies should begin selling their content online a lot faster. Kids that are looking online for a particular movie should be able to find a PAID version of the movie , before they find a free version. To me, waiting a long time to release paid media online actually strongly encourages illegal downloading of movies.

yeah, i dunno how it is in canada, but tons of people download shit for free. I wasn't quite aware that people actually put torrents of ski movies up, thats pretty weak.

the reason they put them up is because they aren't already online ! thats what I'm trying to say! eye trip was a torrent 6 weeks before it was in iTunes. as soon as iTunes released it , the torrent pretty much died.

one thing I think is a problem is that after dark has been done for months and they still wait til halloween to release it, like no shit I'm gonna torrent it I'm tired of waiting and couldn't get to the premiere.
