fucking tree huggers

About an hour-drive away from where I live (chilliwack, bc) there's a proposed ski resort about to be built (by Resorts West, the same company that owns Park City). The plans are approved by our city council and everything already.
This weekend though, a group of women 'women in the woods' set up a protest rally against the logging of this area. This is fucking bullshit. They haven't expressed any platform except preserving old growth forests. But really, if they were to open a ski resort there, WAY more people would have access to seeing and enjoying nature.
Don't get me wrong, i have absolutely nothing against environmental issues at all and i do my fair share to the environment including recycling everything that i can, never littering, conserving water, and am a vegan, but these people are absolutely nuts!
This proposed resort could eventually be one of the best in the the fraser valley and allow numerous amounts of people to see areas they would regularly not be near, except these Women of the Woods who protest this mountain range being expanded upon because 'its sacred'. argg...some people these days

I have nothing against new ski areas, but these women have a point. Cutting runs down the middle of an old growth forest will completely destroy the ecosystem there. Its not like u can cut down a forest and everything that lives in it will be fine. I guess it all depends on wether you think everything on earth is there for human use.

I heard about that too. Crappy.
But think about it. The amount of trees that will be logged for ski runs is NOTHING compared to the amount of trees logged everyday in BC.
Has anybody seen pictures of the Bowron Lake Clearcut? It's near Quesnel and is something like 30 miles long by 30 miles wide.

It's the largest on the planet.
But it had to be done because of some foreign bug was killing all the trees. Those bugs weren't sacred were they.

they should just settup a mtn like mad river glen, have mad tree runs and shit...theres nothing that pisses me off more than a clear cut, they have them all over the east coast a bunch of golf courses in the shrinking wilderness. destroying so many acres just to get the rich conservative fucks from the city to spend their money

Another thing about clear cuts is that when old growth tries decompose the pump more co2 into the atmosphere than all the 02 they produced in their lives

well if u think about it, if any of the animals that live there had the ability t od ostuff like cut trees down, i bet they would also. beavers are able to cut trees down, so they do it. maybe we should have an anti beaver rally too

You need to get excited about the proposed resort in Nelson. If that thing goes through it would be great for BC. 500 inches of snow a year an crazy terrain, I can't wait.

Mcdonalds has those new chicken selects and they kick ass. but yeah the old growth forest should be made into like skateboards or something to be even more productive to keep the tree huggers happy. or just start cutting down trees and push them so they hit them on the head.

they're pretty serious about it...the lady that's incharged of the whole ordeal has done jail time for environmental protests before and has announced that her group of people plan on doing the whole 'chain yourselves to the tree so the loggers can't cut them down',so it's not like a first-timer trying to be a good person, she's had experience being a party-pooper before

man there is probably only enough of them to chain to like 20 differnt trees, i dont think they'll manage to make to much of a difference, they can just log around them till they give up or starve to death/eaten by something

i know what youre talking about. At my mountain here in austria they also want to build up a trail on a 'new' mountain at the very end of the resort. And, for a trail u need a lift. This season, me and my friends stand on the end of the resort and watched up to this mountain. So nice pow, good slope not too steep with alot cliffs and spines. Soo nice, but some people, those who you call tree huggers want to kill that plan. Soo bad. maybe they will have success. I don't hope so. There isnt a forest at this mountain cuz its so high and so, but this people are always trying to find something.
