I usually don't. I bought my Caylors based on the fact that they fit what I wanted and I heard nothing but stellar reviews on them. And the recoils that I bought today I had tried once on a summer set up, but I was given too good a deal to pass up and I desperately needed new park skis
if you can demo, do it. but if there are no shops that have the thalls for demo, which is what u should buy, do ur research, talk to as many people as u can about them, and make ur decision on what to buy.
If you can always demo skis before buying. Its the best way to ensure you get something you really like. I work in the industry so get to do alot of testing, and there are always skis I did not think would suitme that I really like. Likewise skis I thought would be perfect somtimes turn out to not be that good. If you cant demo them yourself definatly make sure your buying from a tech who has skied all the skis he or she is selling and preferably quite alot more. That way he will be able to give honest feedback on how a ski works. These forums can be ok but they are often very very biased.
I just do a bunch of research on NS and elsewhere, it can be biased but if you look at enough reviews you can get a pretty good idea of what you are buying.
Id say if the ski is getting iffy reviews then demo it. but if it gets only good reviews and it fits what you are looking for I wouldn't waste money on demoing them.
