Skydiving

Anybody here jumped out of an airplane for fun? I really want to try it, and I think I'm going to do it in the very near future with a really good friend of mine. Anybody gone solo, or skipped the tandem jump first and gone straight to doing the accelerated free fall class or something like that? Any fun stories? Just curious that's all :)

I'd definitely go tandem your first time or first few times. It's very risky business. Not to scare you, but my brother died and he had done over 300 jumps... I plan on going someday, but definitely not solo.

No no, it's good to be a little scared-it is risky business, and the more I've thought about it the more I've thought that tandem first would be better/smarter. I'm sorry for your loss though, RIP.

Personally, I would rather do the accelerated freefall first. I feel like they don't really prepare tandem students, or educate them enough on how the jump actually works.. I wouldn't want to be completely reliant on someone else to get me down safely (but maybe I just have trust issues like that lol). Also, I don't want any surprise buttsecks shenanigans from an aroused instructor... (then again, maybe I'm not sexy enough to be raped)

I'm pretty sure you have to do tandem first, i dont really know anything about sky diving though.

go tandem first. Make sure you'll actually enjoy it before you spend all that extra money, only to discover that as soon as you're out of the plane, you hate everything about it.


Freefall is the greatest thing ever. My first time was one of the greatest experiences of my life. What's funny is i completely forgot about the other guy in the tandem (you really can't feel the other guy right there) and the parachute. It was such a great feeling that I would have been completely content with just going down like that. 'Course in retrospect...that's awful. But damn, my mind was completely clear and you really feel free.


Seriously though...do a tandem at least. Guarantee you'll love it.

I work part-time at a DZ in washington. Tandem is like an amusement park ride, the AFF course is a faster way to getting your A license. It's fun. If you're in WA PM me and I'll give you a NS deal.

If you only plan on doing it once, or you really think you you'll freak out, go tandem. Most tandem instructors I know are cool people who make it fun. The AFF course is a great way to learn fast. It's cheaper in the long run because you're solo after 7 jumps if you're solid and stable. If anybody is in WA and wants to jump PM me for nice deals.

My first 5 jumps were solo, then I started AFF at a local airport. The first few AFF jumps aren't really solo at all, you're instructor holds on to you the whole freefall. Jumping is a great time, wish I could talk about tandems but I've never done one.

so your first 5 were S/L? Cuz you cant jump from full alt solo without going through S/L, tandem program, or AFF.

There are two places in the world where you can. Uma, Arizona for spec ops training, or USAFA.

Any military airborne guys first go through Ft. Benning jump school which is a bunch of S/L jumps. So if you went through some sort of HALO/HAHO school in AZ you would have gone to Benning and done static line first. Just a little factoid that I'm sure you already know. I think we must have some miscommunication somewhere...or you're just wrong. ;) just kidding.

I went sunday too! It was fucking awesome, the instructor did two summer salts and was like 65 at least. I like when the parachute came out cause it went soo fucking quite.

For my 18th birthday next year (when Im legally old enough) Im going to do it here at Mile-Hi skydiving center. Its literally 10 minutes from my house, and both of my parents say that it was one of the best/scariest experiences of their life. I plan on going tandem for the first couple times, so stoked!

I don't understand why you're trying to explain to me what I did, haha. I know....

First of all, static line is not skydiving. It's flying a canopy. I went through the USAFA program though, which is 5 solo freefall hop and pops. About 10 seconds of freefall, but it feels like forever when it's your first jump and you're solo. After that I went through AFF and such.
